A New "View" Starts Today |
Cristela won't be it. A. Her show tapes in LA I believe and B. I think it just got a second season. Last I hear they are interested in Keke Palmer. The biggest concern is a younger audience.
Barbara is back today co-hosting, and it's a little unnerving to see how much she has deteriorated since her retirement. She doesn't completely seem to know what is going on (which plays into the dementia rumours that surfaced late last year).

You saw it? Wonder what time zone you're in; ABC News was doing breaking coverage of the hostage situation in Paris from before the time The View starts (10am Central time) and through the entire program, and beyond.
It's not on my on-demand options, yet. Maybe tomorrow.

I, too, have found this week's shows to be more engaging, the flow more natural. I don't know if it's due to missing tension between Goldberg and O'Donnell, or just a breath taken in a predictable dynamic. But somehow, with Cantone and others, it's felt more enjoyable. The energy is different. Whoppie and Rosie both do a lot of annotating and explaining, per personal povs, and this week, O'Donnell has seemed to leave more of that out of her comments. I do know, and I hate to say it, I haven't missed Perez. I love her as a performer, and though she's smart and articulate, she has a kind of reserve on the show, a distancing mechanism that makes her behave more like a fill-in guest host. I haven't warmed to her, though I have great respect for her opinions. It's the medium, you can like people but not necessarily as presented. It's mysterious, complicated, unexplainable. Like the dynamic this week.

I wouldn't mind a split in moderator duties. Rosie could do Mondays and Wednesdays and Whoopi could do Tuesdays and Thursdays. Then they could both appear together Fridays.
Also, Mario has been on so much, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the 5th co-host

Have to agree. Mario works as a Guest Star, in with particular commentary on a specific day post-awards or as a decent fill-in when the balance of comedy tips the other way. (In my opinion, the show is deadly when the table is comedian-free.) I, too, think he's wear out his welcome. And suspect he knows it as well.

It is not Whoopi. It is Rosie Perez. She is the culprit and natural flow killer. She's the absolute worst. She needs to go.
Mario is a no. He said it himself today, he's the shows booty call. They call him and he's there in 20 minutes.
Whoopi has another year.
Naya Rivera is back this week.

No Whoopi is pretty terrible too. She just isn't articulate enough in her options and drags out her commentary. She also really needs to stop bringing out the valley girl accent every five minutes.

Today, and many other days in the last couple of weeks, have felt like the old View. A lot of talking over each other, more of a focus on celebrity gossip and pop culture, etc. Not sure if that's a good sign or not.

It does have more buoyancy and energy, and feels less controlled by the earpieces in the heads of whoever is calling the show. And the biggest shocker of the season has been the easy fit of Nicole Wallace, a charming person to have in your home, who manages to self-present without in any way creating tension with liberals, and effortlessly. She and O'Donnell actually get along fine. For an hour a day anyway. Did anyone note her defense of Obama not going to Europe? Measured, smart, insider. I've found her discussions of the Obama administration incredibly generous and unbiased. Shockingly so. She never behaves like a mouthpiece for her party, ever. I've enjoyed her, and no one is more surprised than I.

It's more than an hour a day. When I was at the show before the holidays they were all in love. If there's one person who doesn't last past this season...it'll be Perez.
Whoopi had back surgery on Friday and will be out the rest of the week. I guess we'll see a lot of Cantone this week again.

Wow! The show has been really good these last weeks without her or Whoops.

Guess they're back looking for a 4th host again. Maybe they'll have a 5th by the Fall. Perez never seemed comfortable on the show.

The extreme rise in the amount of crosstalk, vs the lack of real topical conversation, in the last couple of weeks, is worrying to me.
Even though Rosie had her little prepared statements, I thought she was a breath of fresh air.

well, at this point they could add both if they wanted to. The only other person that's been interesting was Laverne Cox. But she's likely too tied up with "Orange is the New Black".
