This is what Rob said in the EW interview:

_____________________________________________________________________

Steve’s been part of every single step of this movie. And the truth is, we’ve been incredibly faithful to the original

“I’m actually really impressed Disney’s doing this film, because it’s very brave. I don’t feel we’ve watered it down in any way, shape, or form

As for the songs and scenes that some fans worried about—the Baker’s Wife’s tryst, the creep-tastic Wolf, Rapunzel’s death-by-giant-foot—Marshall promises, “All of those things are in the film. ‘Any Moment’ is in the film…Rapunzel’s end is still pretty dark, it’s just a different kind of dark, and it’s just as harrowing, and just as sad.

“Rainbows,” a duet between the Baker and his wife, was originally written by Sondheim for a scrapped film version of Woods in the ’90s—but contrary to other reports, Marshall says it was never intended to be in this movie. Sondheim wrote another new song specifically for Streep that was filmed but ultimately cut—as Marshall puts it, “It was beautiful and spectacular, but it was very clear, as good as the song was, that [the movie] was stronger without.”

As it happens, Marshall and his team did not re-shoot; rather, they spent three days shooting new material that had been cut and re-added to the script after Disney screened the movie. (The two scenes in question are character flashbacks.)

No thanks, kid. I will wait for that screenshot of this alleged PM I just sent you... Or I can post my outgoing PM list so everyone can see you're a flat out liar?

Please, let's not argue. This thread was about Into the Woods. This board is about the theatre. There is no reason for any of us to argue. Let's just understand that we have differing opinions and such.

Hey quick question, how come you message new posters accusing them of being other people? I just found out you did that to showface also and you did It with me. Seriously, what is wrong with you? Your little witch hunt has gotten very tiresome for everyone on this board. I trust you know that. I don't know who wronged you on here but you really need to grow up and stop playing detective.

My question is why does BWW lurk around the boards and post things from them and take credit for them?

I think Marshall's cuts from CHICAGO were incredibly smart. You watch the movie, and it's just a tight film, I'm always surprised when it's over because it goes from one scene to another in such seamless fashion. Sure, I miss "My Own Best Friend" and "Me and My Baby" and "When Velma Takes the Stand," but they have no place in the final cut of Marshall's adaptation. The choice to cut "My Own Best Friend" is particularly smart since the moment Velma and Roxie perform together at the end becomes that much more of a climax, it's the first time Zeta-Jones and Zellweger get to sing together, and it's great. I love the montage that plays with the "Me and My Baby" music playing in the background, and Marshall smartly turned "I Can Do It Alone" into "When Velma Takes the Stand." I'm glad he cut this new song from INTO THE WOODS if it didn't fit, seems like he has better instincts than Tom Hooper, who kept that awful awful new song in LES MIS.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

g.d.e.l.g.i. I should've refered to other musical films that the material they based off of, is changed to much that would've worked the way the stage version did, like NINE. HAIR has nothing to do with what I was trying to say, just other films.

Interesting article:

Apparently the reshoot rumors were false. They just added in some scenes.

^That is interesting and it could confirm that Rapunzel's end will still be dark which is something that I personally hoped for. Besides, Marshall, Sondheim and Lapine are not sneezing with this movie, that's for sure.

I wonder how Rapunzel will end. To me, keeping her alive completely softens the emotionnal arc of the show and kinda waters down the Witch character. But we will see....

Maybe Rapunzel completely hurls into madness, and runs away from the Witch. Then, maybe Rapunzel does die, later, and from starvation or the Giant. The Witch finds out close to "Your Fault", or when she searching for Jack.

As it stands, her fate is "dark" (I think "sad" or "heartbreaking" is the better word) but it's not death. The fact that they didn't reshoot just confirms my suspicions that it would remain unchanged. She lives.

For whatever it's worth, I had a chance encounter with Meryl Streep at a recent performance here in NYC. She confirmed that 'No More' was indeed in the film. She did not specify whether it was the full song, a small cut, just dialogue, or whatever, but take that information as you will...

musikman - when was this encounter and conversation? At the screening I attended a little over a month ago, "No More" was not in the movie. Perhaps they reinstated it.

Fantastic, musical master. But I believe the makeup and special effects played a huge role in that for me. I just love that he's not completely CGI. So difficult to describe his look but you're in for a treat.

As always, I'd encourage others who have seen it (Wildcard, broadway_baby, etc.) to also chime in. They might have a different opinion. I know there are some who are predisposed to hating Depp. They will not enjoy this performance.
