I just came back from vacationing in East Tennessee and fell in love with the music and magic of Dolly Parton all over again. Read in recent interview with her that she is working on an autobiographical stage musical. She even suggested Kristen Chenoweth could be a good choice to play her. With "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" (along with Alladin) just declared by NY Times as the official smash hit musicals of the recently concluded season, I think Dolly's musical would be as big, if not even, bigger,
Your thoughts? Any inside scoop on how far along the Dolly musical might be?
Although I personally don't have much interest in a Dolly Parton autobiographical musical, I feel it does have a shot at being very successful. It could be a hit or miss.
Until this past week and purchasing 6 of Dolly's classic early albums, I've considered Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Laura Nyro, and Rosanne Cash the greatest female songwriters of the Last 50 years: now I'd put Dolly right up with them. Her larger-than-life/over-the-top persona really does dwarf her true songwritng genius.
Yeah, not sure where you get that notion Mr. Nowack. My impression is that she is one of the most beloved, successful and critically respected country music artists of the past 40+ years. She just had a very well received set (if you'll pardon the expression) at the Glastonbury Festival, too.
