I loved the show and think Lin Manuel was very good in the role. Too bad that Karen Olivo changed gears and left New York because she's really terrific.

Saw it this afternoon and had a great time. I saw this ages ago with Joey from NKOTB at Jane Street (if memory serves), and I really got into it after never having purchased the OOBCR since then (something I need to correct). Thought the cast was fine, and Karen really killed it for Come to Your Senses. Fun afternoon...

yes, Joey McIntyre took over when Raul left, and did an excellent job!

Cool, Jane. Were Hedwig and Tick the only shows that played there?

No, haterobics, there were others - we had Debbie Does Dallas starring Sheree Rene Scott, Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, by Eric Bogosian, The Love Machine by Sandra Bernhard, an improv show which I don't remember the title of, and an occasional rock concert. I think that's it.

I do know that the Sondheim voicemail is probably included in the licensing pack for the show, as I can remember it being in a community theatre production I saw years ago. It does seem like the sort of thing one would save if at all possible, but I think it's more likely that Sondheim recorded it for the original production.

Saw it tonight. Knew nothing about the show and wound up pretty much loving it.Lin's acting was fantastic. Singing was OK, he is surprisngly more confident singing in his upper register.
Karen brought the house down with her big solo and received a partial standing ovation. Leslie was also great.
Would love if Roundabout or somewhere picked this up like VIOLET, or at least a cast recording.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. Y'know, I paid for my ticket. And that should be that. I don't think he's a terrible singer. But one of the things I've always loved about Encores is hearing the scores. And I wish more emphasis had been on the SCORE. But that's just me...

There is a chance that after waiting 15 years and wearing out your first OOBCR, nothing short of Raul and a time machine would have hit the level of expectation you had going in, though. I've often found that the stuff I go to with crazy-high expectations are often the ones that end up feeling like disappointments.

PrinceCaspian, someone that worked on the original production told me that is the message he left for Jonathan.

"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott

I liked the show a lot. I agree with the comments about Lin's singing and there's a bit of an overacty quality that seeps in to his performance at times, but he was definitely leagues better than his last venture at City Center. Leslie is excellent and Karen brought down the house. It was exciting to finally hear the score live and I hope there's a future for this production! It was really entertaining, endearingly rough around the edges, and had some genuinely exciting moments.

I just saw the show, I loved it. I think the male leads were great and they both sounded great. Karen is such a talent, yet, I feel that Amy Spanger hit notes that Karen Olivo didn't even attempt to try to hit, also she couldn't sustain the note at the end of her solo. That's just an observation. I thought Karen was a 10 out of 10 in West Side Story though, and I'm a HUGE fan of hers.

theatretrash - tick, tick...BOOM! runs 90 minutes. I assume the ENCORES folks decided there was time to do the complete show.

...And what does that have to do with anything? Is it so wrong to want to hear the score sung as well as it possibly can be?

Saw it last night and enjoyed it very much.

Not totally getting the flak for Lin-Manuel's voice. No, he's not Raul Esparza, vocally. But he can definitely sing the score, he's genuinely charismatic and charming, had a clear personal connection to the material, and was able to sell it much better than many performers who would sing the hell out of it.

As I had mentioned, the only exposure I had to Miranda's singing was from the clip with the review by Isherwood. If you listen to that, it's almost all off pitch for the first 30 seconds, at least. That's what I was going by so I asked if that was the case throughout the show.

"I guess I should've known better. Isn't that what always happens when you wait a long time for something?"

Having waited a long time for this one, like you, I have to give this a swift and decisive "NO." This was one of the best nights of theatre I've been to a in a long time. No, Lin-Manuel's voice isn't mindblowing, but he sang it fairly well, and acted the role incredibly (I would also have to assume, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but a large portion of those complaining about his voice probably aren't just hearing it for the first time.) I thought all three of them gave standout performances, and it was a delight to me to finally experience this show live.

"Is it so wrong to want to hear the score sung as well as it possibly can be?"

But that is what you got. Lin, Karen, and Leslie sang the score as well as they can sing it.

Why go from never having experienced the show live to dreamcasting another revival, without stopping to at least settle in and finally see the show performed live?

Once you realized you didn't like Lin's voice, you had the choice to settle in and enjoy the show anyway, or keep fixating on his voice and wishing someone else was onstage singing. One of those is a better time.

"Once you realized you didn't like Lin's voice, you had the choice to settle in and enjoy the show anyway…"

It might help if you realize not everybody is the same. Not everybody has the same focus, not everybody has the same reaction, not everybody has the same response to external stimuli. You instructing somebody to "settle in" is paternalistic and condescending.

I understand what he means, though. You can choose to let one thing ruin your entire experience, or you can take that one thing and put it to the side while enjoying the rest of this experience that you've waited SO long for.

When the one thing is the way the lead, who has the most songs and is the focus of the entire show, and how he sings, I don't think it's somehow wrong to feel strongly about it or to write about it. Again, not everybody has the same capacity for putting aside the unpleasant or ignoring the distractions. If that's what you can do, good for you.

I enjoyed the pre show Lobby Project mini concert of rarely heard Larson songs before the show. Someone needs to figure out how to use HOSING THE FURNITURE in a show.
I enjoyed ttB. Having worked in the service industry for most of my life, Sunday has a special place in my heart.

Exactly Starcatcher, I just wanted to voice an observation. The show was fantastic and nothing ruined my experience. Plus the actors were absolutely amazing, a true delight, I feel bad for anyone who missed this.
