Worst Musical of all time? |
Let My People Come
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”

I can only speak for what I've personally seen, but First Date was terrible IMO. Not even a "so bad it's good" situation.
Footloose Broadway was not good but the UK version ain't bad at all, the tour and London run with Derek Hough was rather good.
I would say Good Vibrations, waste of a perfectly good back catalogue

Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
I've heard the cast recording for Let My People Come.
Some of the songs are campy and actually quite humorous, but my god some of them are.....well they need to be heard to be believed.
I can't even type the names of some of the songs, but "C***(rhymes with some) in My Mouth" sounds like it's straight out of a 70s porn. Musically and lyrically.
And "Dirty Words" is an absolute standout in its awfulness.
I enjoyed First Date.
I did not enjoy:
BKLYN
It's not the worst musical of all time though. I'll have to give that some thought.

Don't Play us Cheap
2 actors play cockroaches invading a party. I kid you not. This monstrosity was on Broadway.

With book, music, lyrics, and direction by Melvin Van Peebles.
A true oddity.
Would love to have seen and/or heard something from this.

Believe me you would not
This was actually filmed ( no idea why)and may still be available on dvd.
Be forewarned, it is beyond bad.

I know some people absolutely LOVE this show, but its charms were lost on me: Side Show.

Thank you so much for the tip Roxy.
I just found a copy on amazon. I wasn't going to buy it, but it stars Ester Rolle and Mabel King!
I'm sure this is just terrible, but for $4.25 my morbid curiosity got the better of me.

Judging by cast albums alone, I have to raise my hand in agreement about Let My People Come.
And I hate this thread. I just bought a copy of Don't Play us Cheap for four bucks on Amazon Canada.

I can't speak to the worst musical of all time, but the worst musical I've ever seen was Good Vibrations which was cringe worthy from beginning to end.

Morbid is the word. Sort of like going to see an accident.
You may feel differently after seeing it that is if you actually get thru it without wanting to put a gun to your head to end the suffering.

We'll have to compare notes after we each watch it Eric.

CLEAVAGE: A New Musical... Close to Where the Heart Is
1982. Unfortunately, my friends at Theatre Now were general managing, so I had to stay for Act II. The show had been a hit in New Orleans and everyone else involved came North with the production. If IBDB is any indication, they were not invited to stay.
(Exception: Theatre Now hired the great Arlene Grayson to rearrange the chairs on the Titanic.)

I'll second the vote for THE FIRST WIVES CLUB. Few musicals can rival its horribleness.
