"I do have a theory that people are not enjoying the show as much from those seats vs good orchestra seats"

I sat in one of the lotto loser seats. Mine was in the rear orchestra, and the overhang made it so I could only see the bottom level. I actually did enjoy the show, but I definitely would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't felt so far away, and if I had been able to see the whole stage.

Where I saw the show from does not have anything to do with my enjoyment of the show. I got it, was not confused at all, in fact I thought it had brilliant potential. I was just not drawn in. My life is more interesting than anything this show has to offer. Still cannot believe these are the same people that gave us N2N. We attended the first preview. We were in great seats. Being any closer would not change my liking or disliking of the show. The show looked great. I enjoyed the set, the cast, the seats. Just was not my cup of tea, at all. N2N was clever and well thought out. This was all over the place, there was nothing clever about it. So not surprised that it did not get nominated.

So are you trying to say you didn't like the show? I'm not quite sure.

". The show would be more confusing from far away"

For what it's worth, I was in the last row of mezzanine off to the side, and I thoroughly enjoyed and understood the show.

Saw post on twitter, people called the box office and were told Idina was on, only to get to the theatre and find out that Jackie is playing Elizabeth tonight as well. Seems odd, either way people need to really chill on the refund line especially if you get to see the show twice. Can anyone confirm this? This also makes me think Idina is now one of those people who can sell tickets to anything, regardless of the material (no shade to If/Then).

I bought a ticket for today's matinee specifically to see Jackie (to the surprise and joy of the employee behind the ticket window and the usher who sat me). She was phenomenal. In my opinion her voice is just as strong as Idina's, and has much more effortless quality. She's also a wonderful actress. So grounded, so interesting to watch. There was a technical difficulty that stopped the show for about 15 minutes in the What The F*CK song, but Jackie didn't miss a beat. The set is on a turn table, and was supposed to rotate to reveal a little bathroom alcove; this did not happen. Jackie came right back out and started her song as if it was a part of the show before somebody stopped her to hold and fix the problem.

I saw Idina's second preview, so my opinion may be slightly skewed, but I honestly preferred Jackie's portrayal. Idina was wonderful, and the show highlights her in every way, but Jackie fit in seamlessly, which blew me away even more. If you get the chance to see her, don't miss it!

When I saw the show, a Sunday matinee, Menzel and company had played a full eight, recorded the album on Monday -- no day off -- then heading straight into the next full week Menzel did the Today show on Thursday, performing two numbers expertly. On that Sunday, her 13th day without one off, she was in superb voice. I marvel at her ability to know and use her instrument so expertly. Her performance was devoid of signs of vocal strain, and soared. So if she's out, she's likely serving a bigger picture concern, to preserve vocal health. It's not a role that can be marked, and for better or worse -- look a the new TV commercial -- she sells tickets to take the roof off. She knows that showing up at less than full throttle won't satisfy, and will only make recovery take longer. The Twitter-ed vitriol directed at her is fascinating. Not since MacDonald was missing in "Porgy and Bess" have I see such judgement.

"Can somebody clarify- was Idina out both shows yesterday?"

Yes, she has been out since she called out of Act 2 of the Wednesday evening show. She's reportedly (per box office) back today. We'll find out soon.

CATSNYrevival sorry for late reply. It just doesn't work like that in the UK. A headliner being out makes no difference, the t&c's make it clear you are paying to see the show not the lead name. The only way your getting an exchange or refund is trough goodwill and thats few are far between.

For instance in the US if Beverley Knight was off in The Bodyguard or Tristian Gemmil was off ill would you get a Refund. These are both named about the title of the show in promotion. You wouldn't on the West End.

I caught If/Then at the Saturday Matinee. I had gotten these tickets as a Mother's day present for my mom. After following this thread earlier in the week I had come to terms with the fact that she would be out, but what a nice surprise to offer everyone who had tickets the opportunity to return to see the show again.

Overall I really loved Jackie. Her voice was very strong, and she made the role her own. She did some lovely vocal riffs, and nailed "Always Starting Over."

And of course the biggest moment that impressed me was how she handled the set malfunction! During What the f*ck, the turntable didn't work. She went into the bathroom, and the set didn't spin around. It seemed like she might do it from the living room as she stepped back into the living room and started singing. Then we go a voice that there was tecnical difficulties and the show stopped for about 15 minutes. Jackie danced around for a second and then walked off until the problem was fixed.

When the show finally resumed(with her now in the bathroom), she addressed the audience "See, this is where I was supposed to be. Now pretend you didn't hear that." After that point the show ran smoothly(no more stops, and I felt like Jackie also had a bit more confidence.

Her Liz/Beth was definitely softer. The biting Sarcasm that Idina brought to the part wasn't there. I think in that turn she was more likable, but the humor was lost a little bit. Overall, even without another ticket to return, my mom loved the show and was quite impressed by Jackie. I would happily see her again!

Dave, did you mean Saturday matinee, or did the set malfunction again today?
