I was looking for something funny to take my girlfriend to. She loves plays and we will be in New York this weekend. Is it something you guys would recommend?
I already found tickets from a site that I linked up but I wasn't sure if I should go through with the purchase. Book Of Mormon Tickets
The Book of Mormon is a great show. I loved it. It does contain a great deal of strong language and adult humor. So know that going in. Also, I would not buy tickets from that site since it is a third party ticket broker. Go to Telecharge.com. Hope this helps!
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
It is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. That said. It is irreverent, slams about every stereotype out there, and is one of the most touching shows ever. If she likes South Park type humor, then yes, see it. If you or her are easily offended, pass on this.
Yeah, I don't think the OP really wants to know how the show actually is. He's just spamming that site for what I assume to be ridiculously over priced tickets
Thank you bwayphreak234. I don't really mind strong language and neither does she. I'm not that big of a play guy so I figured if I got something funny to go to it wouldn't be as painful for me. I'll try out that other site and see if tickets are a little cheaper.
I loved South Park (though it has run out of steam) for years. I think the South Park movie musical is absolutely brilliant. Funny as hell and the songs are great.
I didn't love Book of Mormon. At all. I don't think any of the songs were really memorable (certainly not in the league of the South Park Bigger Longer Uncut songs), and it was only marginally funny.
And, honestly, I was a bit put off by the incessant vulgarity. It was just too much for too long.
I second everything lovebwy says. To us it felt like a show written for folks who hate musicals, even though everyone in the world swears Matt and Trey are huge musical theater fans . Every lyric hinged on rhyming with a dirty word. Just depressing.
Needless to say, we were in the TINIEST of minorities to hold these views. The vast, vast majority of playgoers to BOM think it's sheer brilliance.
Take her to Pippin instead . . . . . you'll be able to get better tickets, better price, and probably a better date-night show anyway. I enjoyed BOM, but wouldn't pay a scalper to get in.
It's brilliant. It's an original musical, it's intelligent, it's catchy, it's hilarious… Miles better than most of the other long-running shows currently on. (I'd say Matilda and Once are also both great options for well-written/brilliant long-running musicals on Broadway, and for revivals Pippin and Hedwig are the way to go).
It's FUN. If you have seen everything else that is running then go see it. It's going to be touring for awhile yet and there is no danger of missing it there. Is it brilliant, mind-blowing, earth shattering THEATER? NO! I enjoy it. But, I never play the recording, nor do I feel a need to see it much. (I've only seen it 2x-and the second was because a friend from out of town wanted to.)
