According to Playbill.

A good strategy to transfer in the spring, where it can bank on awards consideration to help sell it.

YAY!!!! Come to the Fun Home!

I hope they can keep the cast together as much as possible.

^ seconded, and I especially hope Sydney Lucas hasn't aged out of her role by then, because I cannot imagine another child actress portraying Small Alison as beautifully as she did.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I'm sure the adults will stay with it - most of them have been a part of it since the first workshop (all except Cerveris, I think). It's just a question of whether Sydney Lucas and the other children will have grown too much in the intervening year.

Sounds like they're biding their time. Definitely a great strategy as Kad mentioned. I'm sure it will be successful, but the fall is such an iffy time for new shows to open, last, and be nominated for awards. Spring is a good option and will probably offer more choices as far as theatres go.

I think they might keep Sydney because she plays a range of ages. She is just perfection in the role.

Also, the show opening next season means it's entering already having won numerous awards. With a show that's going to be a hard sell on Broadway, that is definitely going to be a leg up for promotion.

Kad-That is what I'm thinking, too. Also, they have a decent shot at the rest of the awards this season (the OCC, DL and Drama Desk). That would be a boatload of awards to bring to Broadway.

I am very happy that this will happen most likely.

Well, well, well. Unless there's a last second sneak attack like Kinky Boots or a surprise like Gigi (Gigi is just an example), we could already have a lock for Best Musical. And next season hasn't started yet Fun Home Aiming for Spring '15 Broadway Transfer

This is wonderful. They are cleaning up the Off Broadway awards, and I think this will have a lot of support next Spring. I hope the cast is the same and Alexandra Socha comes back.

I'd be surprised if Socha did, but who knows?

I'm hoping she does, Kad, but like you I'm not so convinced.

What new musicals are planning to open next year? I know Honeymoon In Vegas is circling, Holler at the Palace is in rehearsals but what else? Revivals of The King & I, Titanic & Dames At Sea have been mentioned. It sounds like a dry fall if not the whole season for new musicals. Fun Home may have a clear landing

Also hoping for Alexandra to come back, but I don’t know if her departure was due to conflicts with the production or was just a personal matter she had to attend to.

Fingers crossed that Sydney Lucas hasn’t grown too old – she was phenomenal.

Very excited for this and think it’s smart to wait to open until just before award season. Excited for the future of this show (and a chance to get to see it again!).

I believe Socha's departure was a legitimate personal matter, but I was surprised she didn't go with the cast to Charleston a few weeks ago (her replacement Emily Skeggs went instead). Anyone have any insight?

It was a personal matter, it should stay personal. She was there for the cast album, though.

I don't have any insight what-so-ever. However, it is completely plausible that she was just busy and it conflicted with her schedule.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
