I didn't see Of Mice and Men, but I did see All the Way and quite enjoyed it-Bryan Cranston is incredible. (I highly recommend the show for his performance alone.)
I saw both, and enjoyed both, but I think I might have liked Of Mice and Men a bit better. this one REALLY depends on your tastes, though.
All the way is a political drama, that runs for 3 hours. It's very well-written, well-directed and well-performed, but it's also very dense. Also, I sat in the nosebleeds for the first act and I could barely hear anything. The sound really does not carry very well. Bryan Cranston is amazing, but if you're not into the whole dense political drama feel, it might not be for you.
Of Mice and Men is also very well performed (yes, I even liked Franco's performance. though not as much as O'Dowd's). I personally love the story, and find it fascinating. I also found it to be incredibly moving and powerful. Despite the slow pace of the play, it really drew me in, and seemed to go by quickly. I personally suggest this one over All the Way, but it really depends on what you like.
I thought Of Mice and Men was far superior. It was beautifully staged and felt very intimate, with a powerful story. All the Way felt like a sledgehammer, especially the last 45 minutes.
I enjoyed both, but as stated above, they are such different shows with different themes, performances, moods, etc. it is hard to say to see one other the other.
Even Cranston vs. O'Dowd give amazing performances that are both worth seeing.
They're both fine shows with great performances. If you enjoy(ed) American History in high school, go see All The Way. If that was never quite your thing, see Of Mice and Men. One is not "better" than the other, it depends on your own interests and tastes about which we have no information.
I am going to have to disagree with the posters above. I really enjoyed All The Way and I thought Of Mice and Men was dreadful. All They Way was electric, expertly driven by Cranston. Of Mice and Men seemed amateur (especially James Franco), it felt emotionally unconnected.
Well I've gone ahead and booked tickets for All the Way. Thanks for the response. I wanted to see a show with good performances and I like Bryan Cranston's body of work, be it comedies or drama.
