Playbill says the show is opening with After Midnight (and performances from their changing roster of Fantasia, KD Lang, Patti LaBelle, and Gladys Night), Aladdin is doing "Friend Like Me" and the show will close with a "megafinale" using people from all nominated shows (sounds like NPH's opening last year).
There's a teaser video out there showing host Hugh doing a hopping number (without sound) that happily brings to mind Bobby Van's amazing "Take Me to Broadway" crosstown hopping jaunt in the movie SMALL TOWN GIRL. I have a feeling that's going to be part of the opening number.
Thanks for putting that possibly into a Broadway context, Mamaleh. I couldn't figure out how that would relate to the TONYs, especially as the scene suggested something from the locale of an Asian setting. LOL - I guess this will all come to light soon - you gave it a possible headstart
Sting is also performing from his new show and Jessie Mueller is performing with Carol King (most likely). It says Hugh Jackman is joining the After Midnight ladies for "On the Sunny Side of the Street."
E.Davis, Leeds isn't in "Don't Tell Mama" or "Mein Herr." Unless he was going to a rehearsal only as part of the band (which seems unlikely to me), my bet is on "Willkommen." Whichever song they perform, and whatever the reason behind them performing, I'm happy about it. :)
i feel Cabaret will perform a little bit of Willkomen, It couldn't please me more (to showcase Danny and Linda) and Cabaret or Don't tell Mamma (to showcase Michelle)
Questions abound about who will sing on the Tonys, particularly when actor nominees are in shows that didn't garner the ultimate nod (i.e. Kelli O'Hara). The Tonys are an annual advertisement for NY theater. And the road. And need ratings grabbers (Jackman, Harris). So it's hard to believe CBS would not want the woman with the #1 song in the world, no hyperbole, to sing on its broadcast. My bets are on Menzel doing a 4 minute version of her ll o'clock spot. After all, we got 3 minutes of GHOST two years ago.
"I'm a comedian, but in my spare time, things bother me." Garry Shandling
Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino confirmed that Violet will be doing "a very clever mash-up of two or three different components in the show. It's not one straight number."
Any guesses? I'm thinking "On My Way" to showcase the entire cast, with "Let It Sing" and maybe "Lay Down Your Head."
Merwin Foard announced on his Twitter that he'll be Jafar on June 8 at 3PM, so maybe Aladdin will be doing something in addition to Friend Like Me at the Tony Awards.
I was hoping they'd do the one song from Gentleman's Guide that I can recall: "You're a D'Ysquith". It sets up the premise of the show and it is very catchy.
This is all speculation, obviously. But based on the photos on Instagram and Twitter, Beautiful must be doing a medley of some kind that includes Will You Love Me Tomorrow. There is a photo somewhere of the four Shirelle girls rehearsing the number yesterday at Radio City. Carole is also in the rehearsal photos with the cast, so one can assume she'll be a part of their performance as well. The entire cast is in whatever number it is at some point so...I'm crossing my fingers for a combo of 1650 Broadway, Will You Love Me, and Jessie and Carole performing Beautiful together.
