Missed a show-- any chance of refund?

Brainfarted on Hedwig. Anyone know if I can get a discount or refund? I live in CA, so the same day Shubert arrangement doesn't help... Anyone?

Unlikely. I wouldn't even expect that you'd have success post dating this one. All sales are final, no exchanges, no refunds.

A discount on what? A re-purchase?

I'd try contacting the source from where you purchased the ticket, but I wouldn't expect anything.

The show is selling out and at this point, they can't recapture the money for that ticket by reselling it. So I would think it is unlikely they'd be willing to take the loss of any part of that ticket price because of your error. On second thought, replace "it is unlikely" with "there is no chance".

Something similar happened to me with Annie. My mother bought tickets to the show and realized about a week later that she had bought tickets for the next day she brought them (She brought tickets for Feb 14, when she meant to buy them March14) Anyway, she called the theatre and explained the screw up she made and told them the situation- the box office told her to call any day that we were in NYC and if they had that seat available, they would give it to us (They also said it happens all the time). We called the first day free we had, explained the situation again, and were told they did not have that seat, but would do their best to find us one close- and they did (with no extra charge). But that was for Annie, and tickets were not the hardest thing to come by, but with a show like Hedwig- It seems bleak.

The difference between HEDWIG and ANNIE is pretty severe. One is selling out and the other one couldn't give away tickets. That's like asking for another ticket to MORMON because you were a moron and missed it.

I once missed a show by one day....thought I had Thursday tickets and really had had Wednesday tickets. Went to the box office on Thursday and explained. They gave us box seats that were better than what we had. He said it happens all the time and not to worry. I would give it a try. As long as you have the ticket that was never used you should be okay.

Telecharge is good for sorting out mix ups in advance, but if the show has passed, you're not giving them much to work with... like reselling your seat, etc.

Not likely. Once your event starts, your ticket no longer has monetary value. You paid for a specific seat for a specific date. That seat was there for you whether you showed up or not.

Those of you telling the poster that he'll be fine are forgetting the obvious: Hedwig is selling like crazy. They don't HAVE tix to 'give away' nor are they obligated to do so. When shows aren't selling to capacity, they can be generous fixing your problem.


There's a tiny chance they can do something for him, but he's already said that he couldn't do day of calling as he lives in CA.

I'd chalk this up to a loss and a lesson learned. A refund is out of the question.

If you know anyone in nyc, I'd give them the ticket to see if they can make use of it by post-dating, but as others have said, even that's iffy with a show like this.

Still it's a single ticket, and that gives a flexible local ticket holder a better shot at it. That's what I would do. If you don't actually know anyone, give it to someone here. You can't be made whole, but you can give someone else a chance to see the show.

Maybe I've just had extraordinary luck, but I've always done well with this kind of thing, especially with a single ticket and the right attitude. You just have to be patient and accepting of whatever they give you, whenever they give it to you. It's been my experience that people love to help out when they can.

I'd go to the box office at a time when it's very slow, tell them upfront you know you're asking for the impossible, then ask them if there is anything they can do, now or in the future. Get the name of the person you spoke to and reference them each time you try. None of this will help the OP, but if he gives the ticket away, at least he's done a good deed.

Years ago, I had tickets for Amy's View with Judi Dench for a Wed. evening but thought they were for Thur. night. Bought tickets for Annie Get Your Gun for Wed. night. Then went to Amy's View on Thur. No one caught the error till we were seated. About 10 minutes before curtain, the usher brought two people to our seats. She examined both sets of tickets and informed me that "your tickets were for last night." She told us to go to the lobby, ask for the manager, and he would help us. After explaining what an idiot I was, he said "follow me." He phoned someone to "hold the curtain" as we followed him back into the theatre. Five minutes later we were sitting on folding chairs in an area somewhat closer than we originally had been. What an angel!

Don't lose hope. I had a ticket for Hedwig that I'd actually bought from someone else, and couldn't make the date. I talked to the people at the Belasco box office and they were extremely nice, and told me that they would try very hard to switch the ticket for me, if the original buyer called them. I picked out another date, the buyer called Telecharge Customer Service, who then contacted the box office...and voila, I got the exact seat I wanted for the other performance. I had to pay the $10 difference in the seats, and another $10 or so in service fees, but it was a date I could make, and I went from seat G14 to seat BB2. I realize this is not your situation and it's after the fact for you...however, the box office did tell me that if I couldn't get the original buyer to give them a call, I could past-date.

Yes, it's selling really well, and past-dating is subject to availability, but my experience leads me to believe that they will do everything possible to give you a hand...and if it's at all possible, I'd try to do it before the reviews come out, it is terrific. Good luck!

If you don't attempt to ask then you will never know the outcome. Doesn't matter if its a sold out show. Years ago, at the last performance of Sarah Brightman at Phantom, the Saturday night before the Tonys, it was a sold out show. I bought my ticket outside, which ended up being a bad ticket. The usher told me to speak to the House Manager. I told him what happened and he put an extra seat for me in the box. He couldn't have been nicer.

The previous postings are correct. Past Dating is really your only option here. Since the show is long past, the sales have already been settled, so a chance of a refund is basically zero. In terms of best success for past dating the ticket, I would check more than once on the day you plan on going (sorry you live so far away. But make a return trip!) Every theatre keeps a few emergency seats on hold usually til right before the performance in case something pops up they need them for (VIP/Donor/Producer wants to go last minute, the FOH staff wasnt made aware of a patron using a wheelchair who needs an accessible seat, patron is vomiting from vertigo in the balcony and needs to be moved down a level. All things that have occurred on my many years in box office and FOH). So check in the morning, again in a few hours, and then right before the show. Another thing that happens sometimes, is that TKTS wont sell all of their allotted tickets for the night, so maybe 1 or 2 will be turned back before the start of the performance. Might sound like a bit of work, but its really all youve got unless you want to buy a new ticket.

My friend blanked on Hedwig last week. She called them, and they were very kind in telling here there was nothing they could do. It was her fault, and the tickets say no refunds. It does suck, but lesson learned I guess.

random bump

I had tickets to American Son today and on my way to the theater hit a pot hole and blew out my tire. Contacted telecharge and they said something about me being able to call the day of and seeing if seats are available.

Hoping something can be done on a day I call in but am not expecting them to do anything. Right now my concern is getting my car fixed but for now the donut is just sitting on it and the car is still not driving correctly

Yankees02, Don't drive too many miles on the donut.   It is not safe.  Also don't drive over 40-50 miles per hour.  Again, not safe due to the lack of tire tread on the donut.

American Son hasn't been the hottest seller, so you shouldn't have too much trouble post-dating, but the sooner the better, since a lot of people put off seeing a show until it's about to close.

thanks for the replies artman and haterobics. Didn't get a chance to respond earlier. I was able to get my car fixed the next day, insurance covered the tire.

I had no idea how post dating worked for shows and had no idea it even existed. I was able to go to American Son last night and they gave me rear orchestra seats. I initially had last row of the mezzanine.

Worked out great for me though in the end. Glad I at least got to see the show and money wasn't wasted. Thanks again for the replies

I have tickets that I would like to try to post date but they are not under my name as they were purchased through a third party. They're physical tickets. Any idea if the box office will accept or will I need id?
