The stage door was somewhat mobbed... I skipped the curtain call and got a good spot in front of the barricade. I was at a spot where the actors started signing, so it was easy to get a signature. James, LaChanze, Ryann and Janet came out. After LaChanze came out, someone saw Idina come out another exit and get into her car, and them about fve minutes later the stage manager confirmed she was gone. I guess that makes sense, since I heard she had some sort of family emergency very recently. The stage manager says she comes out mostly at nights and some Sunday matinees. If she doesn't come out, I recommend going to the stage door another night, or writing a letter to her with your playbill enclosed.
Well, of course. It's really important to not applaud actors for the incredible effort they put in to entertain you and miss the curtain call so that you can go and say two words to them in a crowded mob at stagedoor!
On Friday someone handed her a KINKY BOOTS playbill. She singed it and just said "where were you tonight?" Haha

I just went to the Matinee today. Show was awesome! As expected, Idina did not come out, but no other principals came out either! I know Anthony's out for surgery recovery (his understudy was excellent), but I was hoping to catch James Snyder to sign my Bare cd. I'll be going back tonight to try and catch Idina and hopefully the rest of the cast.
I was at the Hedwig stage door Wednesday night and it was mobbed. However, people were extremely kind and helpful. People were passing playbills forward for Neil to sign and then back to the owner. Other people were helping other people get up to the front to get a quick picture of Neil.
Neil (like Idina) was very gracious and signed as many playbills as he could.
Went to the stage door last night after the evening show. As others have said, go on a day that you're not seeing the show. I got there at 9:45 which was way too early (I thought the show started at 7). I would have been fine if I got there at 10:30. By the time the show let out around 10:45, the first row behind the barricade was full. I got a great spot right in front of the barricade. Everyone in the cast was super nice and answered questions and posed for pictures if asked (except for Idina, no pictures with her). James Snyder signed my Bare cd cover and was really excited that I had it. There was excitement when Idina came out, but not a whole lot of pushing or rude behavior, although my sister said she saw someone accidentally hit Idina with a poster. People were helping each other out with getting stuff signed too.
Tuesday or Thursday are the best nights to go. On two show days many people who went to the matinee come back for the evening because Idina doesn't come out in the afternoon. And then Friday and Saturday are just generally more of a madhouse.
As others have said, I wouldn't attempt it. She is just trying to get to work and would probably not appreciate being bothered by people before giving a performance.
When I saw it, she was very nice after the show and signed for as many people as she could. If you go on a day that you're not seeing the show, you should have no trouble getting a prime spot at the barricade.
Asking for an autograph before any show isn't a good idea. Idina heads into the theater very quickly and quietly. You could be standing online and not even know she slipped in. It's also not polite to approach an actor before their show. The post show stage door is the best place to get an autograph, and like the user above suggested, if you can, come back a different night to get a good spot. If you can't come back, try to make an evening performance on a weekday. Things should be a little quieter this time of year. Idina is very nice and signs as much as she can!

One of my favorite stage door videos - it only qualifies as such because it took place at the SD - was shared by Curtis Holbrook. Idina walks right through all the people waiting to see her arrive/to see the show, and no one realizes it's her until she's through the door. The best moment are the two women at the front on the left that she actually tapped to pass by them, realizing it was her much too late. lol
Last night, Idina tweeted an apology for failing to answer a fan's question at stage door because she was so distracted signing things, and answered it via twitter. Thoughtful. :)
^Yeesh, well, at least those two women didn't try to storm the door afterwards (like the one grabbing onto the stage door and swinging it open), or that other woman trying to hand off something (to be signed? meh). Looks like navigating a swimming pool full of sharks.
Idina is always pleasant, thoughtful and generous at the stage door. She's 10x nicer than she needs to be, considering her JOB is doing the show, and this stage door stuff is just extracurricular. I wish people could just accept what they get and be appreciative instead of complaining and wanting more.
