Whenever I watched 'Richie Rich' as kid, my favorite line in the movie was when Regina Rich, played by Christine Ebersole, saw her nose destroyed on Mt. Richmore and said, "Oh my god, my nose! I look like Michael Jackson!" I heard that line was cut from television airings even before Jackson died. Macaulay Caulkin was apparently offended by this since he and Jackson were close. You can tell he was pissed by this after she said it. What do you all think of the joke?

It's horribly offensive and shame on Christine Ebersole for not only writing Richie Rich but also daring to make a joke that no one else has ever dared to make...

I watched this movie all the time as a kid, but never realized until now the Mom was played by Christine Ebersole! I never made that connection.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Ms.Ebersole didn't in fact write the screenplay so it's hardly her "stab", and in any case Michael Jackson has been the butt of many jokes relating to her other stuff we all know about - so this was hardly a big deal then and even less of a big deal now.

This is a weird thread.

^ It's just that the film is turning 20 this year and it came to my mind. And since Ebersole is a theatre favorite I thought I'd talk about it here. Also, someone else was bothered by it around 16:23 of this video.

Well, it did look like Michael Jackson - so maybe it wasn't so much a stab as just insensitive.

ok, i guess i'll be that guy:

"take a stab at" means to give something a try

"take a jab at" means to make a derogatory joke

the joke is a jab at michael jackson, not a stab

you're welcome Christine Ebersole's stab at Michael Jackson in 'Richie Rich'

"You can tell he was pissed by this after she said it."

I'm sorry, what? As if that sequence was done in one take, it probably wasn't even done in order, and likely not even on the same day.

I understand Miss Ebersole was paid in Ameros for her work in Richie Rich.

If it makes u feel any better she was also in Black Sheep and ends up getting dry humped by Chris Farley at the end of the movie, so there's ur revenge for her being so mean to crazy Michael Jackson.

People think about Richie Rich?

Yes, Kad. There's some compelling 9/11 conspiracy theories in there that reveal that it was, in fact, an inside job.

"Really? How?"

The way he yelled, "MOM!" showed that he was not happy about it.

I don't see why this is a big deal. It's just a random joke in the movie to possibly try and cut the tension of the scene. More than likely the joke was put in there for the parents who would be watching the film with their kids.

Maybe he said it convincingly. I mean it is Macaulay Culkin.

Oh my God. That's your reasoning behind this asinine thread.
