PlayitAgain, most of the reaction on the Facebook page is a mixture of sadness and disappointment in the fact that Laura is,leaving. Not all, but most. And that's understandable.

Hoping she pulls a "Danna Paola", because this show doesn't deserve to close because of a miscast name.

Does this necessarily mean that the show is in danger? Phantom and Chicago have both cast pop stars/celebrities and they're two of the longest running shows on Broadway.

"So they should have closed the show and put a couple of hundred people out of work instead of recasting the role with another performer? You are definitely not a Rand Paul devotee -- you actually want these people to go on unemployment!"

"And put up to 200 people out of work? I am sure they will appreciate you holding their place in the unemployment line on a cold January morning. Will you be there to hold their places in line or you will you be the one who comes by with pay it forward cups of coffee to keep them warm or will you be at home wrapped in your snuggie on your sofa cuddling with your cat and a warm mug of hot chocolate?"

Oh dear, no one wants people to go on unemployment. I am growing tired of this argument. Are you an employee of the show, or do you know someone who is? First of all, show closings will always be part of the business. The people who work on this need to know this and understand this. A show shouldn't be kept open just to keep people employed, as sad as it would be for people to be out of a job. If a show is struggling to stay open, it needs to close. I can't say this is the specific case for Cinderella; however, stunt casting (whether Carly is good or bad) is usually the start of it.

If you're going to argue anything in this thread, debate about Laura's replacement.

I think that was a very appropriate and necessary response on her part, since people have gone downright crazy with all of the hate floating around. As much as I'm disappointed in the situation, there's no reason to send hate to Carly over it. How could you blame the girl for taking an opportunity like this? I honestly feel bad for all of the crazy messages Laura is getting because of this. It's one thing to rationally discuss the casting and have reasons to back up your opinion, but it's the people who simply post hate that give Broadway fans a bad rap.

The way some of you are getting so worked up over this is both kinda sad and also hugely entertaining. Seriously, it's a part in a Broadway show that until Thanksgiving was starting to struggle anyway. And the venom some of you are displaying regarding Carly Rae is absurd. Get a grip and remember that Laura got her first Broadway role because she won a TV reality show contest.

I agree FishermanBob. People freaking out about someone they haven't even SEEN in the role yet? How ridiculous. They obviously wouldn't chose her if they didn't think she could do it, and she will bring in dollars. Broadway is a business. Don't like her? Don't go see her. Problem solved. Yeah! I'm sure a lot of kids are incredibly excited to see her. Which is who Cinderella aims for. Kids.

"From the epitome of class to the antithesis of it..."

Just for kicks SideBySideLogan, why don't you try performing it just for a night, and see how challenging it can be. No? Then stop your bitchy drama.

For me, I'm not mad about casting Carly Rae Jepsen (although I will say I was very optimistic about Carrie Underwood and then severely disappointed). For me, I'm just sad that my dreams of seeing Laura Osnes live are not to be - my tickets are for February 5th. Sucks, but the world doesn't revolve around me, anyways.
My question is, seeing as how Cinderella isn't doing that well, how quickly are Laura's last nights going to sell out? Because I'm going with school, I might try to talk teachers into letting me go to the show on an earlier night, but I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone until January 6th... would there possibly still be tix then?

Yeah, I just checked for February 1st, her last day, and there are a ton of matinee and evening tickets left. You should be just fine.

Well, it's certainly gotten people to talk. I do wonder if it'll translate into actual ticket sales, but it's always unpredictable who people will shell out tickets for. I think people might go if they market it right.

She may suck.
She may be amazing.
I don't get all the comments before she even starts.

I also don't get the comments about missing Laura. The show has been open over a year more or less

I liked the show but didn't love it. Kinda loved the Deborah Gibson / Eartha Kitt tour more.

Hmm... I'm against this decision but it may be a smart move on the business side of things, which is what really determines the success of a show. Having a great actress as a leading lady doesn't always sell tickets, unless she wins a Tony for the role. However, a pop star could get people to buy tickets, and I'm assuming that they are taking a leaf out of the Sound of Music. However, I don't believe that she will sell nearly as many tickets as they hope she will, due to her rather C list status. Only time will tell, but I will not see her in the show because I think that the new book is an insult to an otherwise perfect show.

I just don't think her voice suits this part at all. She sang some a few classic tunes well on 'Canadian Idol', but still I am not sure this is the right role for her. Still, this will help raise sales.

I am not sure what I see here is 'hating' on Jepsen as much as questioning the casting choice. I don't see her as a draw. Is she really that big to get the grosses where they need to be to keep it running through the winter? Obviously the producers think so - it will be interesting to see.

I remember in 2004 Disney Theatrical wanted to bring in some money for the difficult winter and popular summer months when they had Christy Carlson Romano play Belle in 'Beauty and the Beast'. They also thought it would be good for the show's 10th anniversary. So, this is a smart move on the casting team behind 'Cinderella', but we will waut and see if Jepsen is any good.

Because some of us are poor, underage, and live in Canada. Going to a Broadway show is a HUGE deal (I've only seen one, five years ago). Nipping over to see Laura in the show was not an option, so I was hoping she might last until I made it - but I understand that Laura isn't going to schedule her life around me. I'm just rather sad to have missed her.
