Patina Miller was wonderful in the role. I hope I can get back to NYC to see Nicole if she is cast. Patina was cast in the new Hunger Games movie so I'm not surprised that she has to depart the production to film the two-part movie(s).

^ Surely that's not the only reason... Her part is rather small, isn't it?

Nicole Scherzinger is quite the performer. Her performance in RENT was one of the few good things about it, and her voice is out of this world. I think she could be great in this role.

As has been mentioned, this has all the hallmarks of star casting not stunt casting…yet. She can sing, dance and act. Whether she can hack it 6-8 shows per week is another question and remains to be seen. She was pretty poor singing Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Variety Performance but other performances she has been quite something

As for why be a replacement? There will be enough pressure on her anyway because of who she is, without the additional stress of opening a new show. I also wonder if this is a trial run to open the London production . Pippin is not known in the UK like it is in the US, so her name would really help the box office

Patina Miller is replaced by a star once again. I wonder if she wants to stay like she did with Sister Act.

I'm all about this casting. I hope that Miller denied an extension, and that she wasn't passed over for that opportunity because of Scherzinger, but I'm still excited to see her in this part.

RE Stars Replacing: Not everyone cares about being eligible to win a tony, and all the other stuff that comes along with opening a show. That seems to be a hard concept for die hard theatre people to grasp.

It's neither stunt casting nor star casting. I certainly wouldn't consider her a star. She's a name, a personality who is up and coming as she gets more credits under her belt but it's a stretch to call her a star. It's certainly not a stunt either. She obviously can dance and handle the physicality of the role. Most feel she can sing and act well enough as well. How does that make her casting a stunt? We're not talking Wendy Williams or Billy Ray Cyrus here. And it's a little premature to assume Patina is being pushed out. Nothing has said when she is leaving so best to wait and see how it plays out. She might not leave until May or June. Who on this board knows for sure at this point?

Saw her in Rent and I was very skeptical going in. Felt like they chose popular names without thinking about the characters and who would be right for those roles, but she changed my mind completely. I was buying everything she was selling on that stage. I could and would definitely see her in Pippin.

She's definitely a Star. Ask any Teenager, Cutting her Broadwayteeth in a large, flashy, part in a hit show is a great way to prove your worth. And I have worked with her and she is a hard worker. I wish her well, if this is true. Great casting.

Yes please. Very talented performer. I've seen her legit stuff and I've seen her live with the Pussycat Dolls when they opened for Britney Spears. She is one of the most well-rounded and underrated performers of this generation. It's a shame that she is not terribly famous - she was my least favorite X Factor judge and her solo album (while HUGE in the UK and a great dance album) was never even released in the US.

That makes a lot of sense. She's much bigger in the UK.

And you know what? If casting directors and producers really want a big name for the Leading Pippin the movie version, here they go. Not only does Nicole have the name, but she also has experience and talent for the role :)

I think she will be perfect for the role, I didn't realize she was 35. She looks a lot younger. I think she will be fantastic but there is no definitive date when Patina is leaving, right?

I wouldn't say her album was huge over here.
She is best known as a ****cat doll and for doing two years on xfactor and having amazing clothes week after week

She's a star. Trashy as hell, unlike the gorgeous and quite classy Patina Miller. But a star.

It all comes down to what people consider a "star".

She's been a joke in the music industry for years now since all her attempts to launch a solo career failed miserably. All her singles flopped pretty badly in the US despite great promotion and any prospect of releasing an album were canceled by her label because of it. Even in the UK, where she managed to get an album out, her sales were mediocre at best, peaking at #08 and not even being able to go platinum despite having a couple of successful singles. I wouldn't call her a "star" at all.

"It's a 90% done deal," a source within the theater industry told the publication. "She is a good singer, a great dancer and an amazing looker. However, most important, she will sell tickets."

I HATE THIS QUOTE! No, when casting someone the most important things should definitely include THE ABILITY TO ACT!

I wouldn't think this news has much bearing on when Patina will exit. She'll go when she's ready, regardless of who takes over for her.

well this didn't last long.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. 'She was pretty poor singing Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Variety Performance"

What's wrong with you? Or are you one of those theater snobs that think if someone doesn't sound exactly like the original cast recording, the performance is useless? This is hardly poor and if she was good enough for Sir Andrew to sing at such a prestigious event, you only make yourself sound foolish.
