Are the ticket prices higher than they were last year?

I think the prices are much higher. The NY Times says $90.50 was the top price during the original run. I think $139 is the most expensive ticket (by far) in Off-Broadway history for non-premium.

Since all the tickets are the same price, I believe Here Lies Love may be the show that you have to pay the most money to get in, ever, except for Book of Mormon. Book of Mormon apparently went to $155 for the last row of the mezzanine at some point. That is INSANE.

"What was the name of that cheese that I like?" "you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start" "well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"

The show is incredible, but I doubt I'll see it again more than once or twice at these prices. Not to play the "price-per-minute" game, but for a 90 minute show you're paying a buck fifty a minute. I adore this show and would certainly pay those prices to see it again -- but would many? It'll be interesting to see if discounts are offered...I expect (and hope) so.

In either event, I can't wait for the cast album to come out; i've practically worn out the concept album!

Thanks, Artc3. I will just keep an eye on it! And, maybe by then some discount codes will have popped up.

I know HLL is not a Public production but is renting space there. The Public's policy, as I understand it, is that all shows "at the Public" offer rush when available. Does anyone know if that includes shows not produced by but taking place at the Public?

^^^ It hasn't happened that frequently at the Public, so I think we'll have to wait and see. Unless someone has insider information.

For those who have seen this, will we lose much of the "experience" if we sit in the balcony? If we decide on floor "seats," how crowded is the floor and how much moving around is involved during the show? We are thinking about doing a 5:00 P.M. show so that we can maximize the number of other shows that we can see during our next visit to NYC. If we do that, will we easily be able to make an 8:00 P.M. Broadway show?

I don't know what you mean by floor seats. The only person sitting on the main stage floor was someone in a wheelchair. Everyone else in seats was upstairs.

To answer the first part of your question, yes, I think you would miss some of the fun of the show if you were to sit in the balcony. It is tiring, though, to stand and dance and move for that long. I was pooped by the end of it. As far as how much moving you'll have to do, if the staging has remained the same, the ushers will move you from time to time as set pieces have to be opened or reconfigured. It's hard to say "how much" that constitutes.

As far as seeing a Broadway show at 8, I don't remember how long Here Lies Love runs. Assuming it's 90 minutes, you SHOULD have enough time, but if for some reason the N or R trains aren't running that day, it will be harder to get up to the theater district.

luvcaroline, IMHO, yes. You will lose a lot of the experience sitting upstairs and not standing/dancing downstairs with most of the audience. This show is all about the "experience", so unless you have reason to not want - or be able - to stand for the required 90 minutes, definitely opt for the floor. It is crowded on the floor. Not painfully so, but you will standing with a crowd not that dissimilar to a dance floor at a popular club. The stage moves often and with it the audience, so you'll be moving a lot and even learn and be asked to dance a line dance.

As for time... The show runs only about 80 minutes, but exiting The Public, perhaps getting anything checked, etc. figure another 20 or so minutes. So, it is possible to catch an 8p show uptown.

I will say that I often like to have some time to take a show in and process the experience. This was especially true with HERE LIES LOVE. I live here and so I'm not in a rush to see as much as I can in a few days, so take that into consideration, too.

Anyway, enjoy the show, it is really a lot of fun. And, welcome to New York. Have a great stay!

The show is best experienced when in the floor area. You are part of the action. However, you will not miss anything if you were in the balcony. Occasionally, some of the action occurs underneath you. However, if you don't mind leaning forward during those moments, you will still be able to see what's going on.

Thank you for the prompt replies! My partner has limited vision in dim lighting, and so we were just wondering how much moving around we would have to do and if that would impede our enjoyment of the show. I think that we might take a chance and try the floor. I know what you mean about taking in so many shows, Artc3. However, this is going to be a shorter trip for us (4 nights), and there's a lot that we want to see. We already have Cabaret and Rocky tickets, and thinking about adding If/Then and possibly Hedwig.

My sister and I saw "Here Lies Love" last year from the balcony and we were just fine. Yes, it would be more fun to be immersed in the show by doing the floor, but you won't miss too much by being above the action. An it's kinda fun watching the audience too and seeing how everyone gets herded around.

As to the 5:00 show, yes there is plenty of time to go back uptown after the show, and even grab a quick bite to eat. After we saw the show, we grabbed a quick bite (from McDonald's, but there should be time for another place) and them we caught the evening show for "The Nance".

Theoretically, if one plans it right, it would be possible to see four shows on the Saturday. A shorter show (under two hours, but if you time it right, you can see a full 2.5 hour show) matinee, then head down to the Public to see the 5:00 show of "Here Lies Love", then come back uptown to see a 90 minute show like "After Midnight" at 8:00, and then you have about 25 minutes or show to run over to see "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" at 10:00. It's crazy, but do-able I think (well, at least my sister and I are going to try that when we come again in June.)

We are seeing 5 on a Saturday in May, adding the new show at Radio City at 11 am but also taking advantage of HLL and Hedwig's alternate schedules. Can't wait!

Wonder how the show will hold up in this space. Certainly one of the most unique theatrical experiences I've ever come across...

The show just needs a little bit of polishing up. Maybe have nicer platforms (the old ones looked very much like plywood). More disco lights on the stage floor would be good. Glitz it up!

I'm more concerned about how the commercial audience would take to this. First the location is too far off Times Square, second, I can imagine the tourists complaining of having to stand the duration of the show.

I think there is an audience for HERE LIES LOVE. After all, Sleep No More (same producers), is far from Times Square, and not only do you stand, you climb lots and lots and lots of steps.

If there is a decent marketing campaign, combined with word of mouth, HERE LIES LOVE, will actually bring new audiences to The Public. I think this is going to be a win win all around.
