New CATS film? |
An exercise in redundancy.

If they cast Grumpy Cat, I'll see it.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
And Lil Bub. Otherwise I'll never see this crap.
"Pardon my prior Mcfee slip. I know how to spell her name. I just don't know how to type it." -Talulah
Who wants to bet they'll get Meryl Streep for Grizabella?

Even as a fan I'm not interested. There are very few ways that Cats could work as a legitimate film. It would likely need to be animated (which T.S. Eliot never wanted as he turned down Disney when approached) or it would have to be some kind of motion capture Avatar style computer animation which would be too expensive and too much of a gamble for a movie musical. It would also require some kind of additional narrative on film in order to make sense without the dance sequences. Since the Eliot estate put a ban on the inclusion of any material not written by T.S. Eliot for the stage show it is unlikely that they would allow it for a film adaptation. The DVD already available is good enough although it would have been nice if they had captured the complete stage show and not made arbitrary cuts.
At last, a project worthy of Rob Marshall's talents. Cast Streep as Grizabella already, get it over with.

Ok, now Hollywood/Broadway has given up. This won't work at all.
P.S-Where's our WICKED adaption????

Actually, an animated version was what Universal was aiming for at one point. This post at IMDb reveals more.

I think Cats is a big reason why people who hate musical theater, hate it so much. ALW is on my fantasy plane crash right along with every Real Housewives cast member, Gwyneth Paltrow, & Miley Cyrus. I love Evita & JCS but let's chalk they're success up to Tim Rice
I will never be able to see ANYBODY else as Rum Tum Tugger after seeing John partridge. in my eyes, he was just SOOO perfect- not to mention hot as hell. seeing him in that film was when I was little was when I realized I like boys!
Darreyl with an L!
I heard that Sydney Poitier was developing an animated version. I picked up his son in a bar recently and he told me. (He also won't leave... Weird.)
I want to see this with real cats
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
``oscar wilde``
I enjoy ALW's music and enjoy Cats moderately well but a movie version would be awful and waste of money especially when that money could be put towards a movie version Sunset Blvd or The Boys in the Photograph... or a "stage" version Hal Prince's version of Evita.
Of course, they could always use Laser Cats!

Meryl Streep has officially become the go-to actress for female leads in film musicals.
It's handled.
I'm just waiting for her bebut album.
If she keeps this up in about 60 years from now she'll likely be remembered as the greatest musical film actress of this generation.
