Something as important as this should happen on the main show, which could easily eliminate most of the trivial and inane spots they do include in it.

The show is bloated into 3.5 hours with extended comedy routines, but they don't have five minutes to honor Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin, and Angelina Jolie. All three are well known to TV audiences, so if it's a ratings thing, these are "high profile" people. Not that it should matter. They care enough to give them an award, but not enough to actually celebrate it publicly.

Yeah, this year in particular there seems to be a general agreement among the Oscar experts and the public (that is the public who cares about these things) that these awards should be handed in the telecast. How is it possible that these three figures are relegated to a separate ceremony? Yes, I guess it's nice that they can really give them their due by dedicating a long evening to them, but why not do something shorter, and classy at the Oscars telecast rather than having Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron and the likes perform a terrible medley that everyone hates? Ridiculous.

It's a shame. By desperately trying to cater to a misguided popularity contest, they lose more of what's unique about them, year after year. They reduce themselves to a common, current fad.

Such a shame we can't see that wonderful moment (pictured above) live, as Angela is experiencing it. A great photo of a legendary lady and actress accepting a well deserved lifetime achievement award.

Such a shame it's not on the main broadcast...things like Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin presenting Robert Altman with his Honorary Oscar and Blake Edwards receiving his were some of the best moments of the Academy Awards in recent years.

It's a shame that Ms. Lansbury's speech was not there for millions to see and that the Governors Awards are not televised.
The best way of honoring this year's recipients is to allow Ms. Lansbury, Steve Martin and Angelina Jolie to present Best Picture.

By the way, Ms. Lansbury became only the 10th woman to be awarded with an Honorary Oscar and only the 2nd in the past 20 years. Here's hoping they will start to woman on a regular basis and the likes of Debbie Reynolds, Gena Rowlands, Jeanne Moreau will be awarded by the Academy before it's too late.

I know everybody has their own personal wish list, but I just can't understand how Doris Day hasn't been given this award. I'm so pleased to see Angela Lansbury get it, though, so I can check her off - my others being Doris, Maureen O'Hara and Mia Farrow.

Doris Day has been offered to be the recipient for YEARS. She always turns them down. She is simply not interested.

I would assume since she has told the Academy she has no plans to accept it, they would rather just give it to someone else who would.
