Cake or death?
Songs for a New World as one of the top 10 greatest musicals ever written? It's not even a musical, really- it's like a concert. I LOVE the music- I own the album and listen to it on a weekly basis, but it is NOT in my opinion in the top 10 best musicals ever written. I wouldn't put it in the top 50 to be honest with you.

This is why I dislike list. So subjective without any criteria. By some titles on these list I have to wonder, can we have a show of hands of who has even seen 10 musicals. Not to be critical of some people's choices, but I guess I am. Is this like the top ten from the past five years? Thank goodness there's one GUYS & DOLLS in there somewhere.
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

I'm curious as to why FUNNY GIRL is showing up on the top 10 lists. Don't get me wrong, I love the score to the show, and it definitely was a hit, and the movie version of the show was great, etc.
But it was a star turn, pure and simple. Without Streisand, it wouldn't have had the impact that it did. Even though Mimi Hines and Lainie Kazan (for one performance) essayed the role of "Fanny" well, it is definitely Streisand that "made" that show. I think the ending is a little weak, too.
But then again, maybe that's why it's on top 10 lists -- for "best star turn show". LOL
