I don't know if this has been discussed before, but why are there so many performances put on of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular? It's a classic, yeah I get that. The cast puts on about 4 performances a day, and up to 6 in December, which I find very interesting. Do they rotate the Rockettes, singers, and actors each show due to putting on so many a day or how does that work? Since the venue is huge, people are at work and in school during the weekday, and I wouldn't think that tourists would visit NY during November for "Christmas cheer?", is the attendance any good? Specifically the morning and early afternoon performances during the weekdays. Sounds stupid to ask but, just curious.

And what does age have to do with asking a question? Updated On: 8/1/13 at 01:56 PM

Why? Because they can, and it no doubt makes money. There's lots of experience putting this on yearly to make the revenue model to work, after all.

Why do they call it "Radio City" if it isn't really a city?

They usually do so many to accommodate for everyone, some people are very busy during the day so they have a very early and very late one. Even in the latest and earliest shows they have very packed crowds. They have to groups of dancers as well. The morning group, who does the first half, and the evening group who does the second half. Each group has a day off in the week where the other group will perform all the shows instead of half.

My understanding is that "Christmas cheer" starts on approximately October 20th these days, so no, it doesn't seem terribly shocking that there would be enough Christmas-loving tourists in the area in November to fill up a few performances a day.

The morning and afternoon weekday shows are going to cater more to school groups and similar.

And since they've been doing this craptacular for a few years (sarcasm), I'm pretty sure they know what they are doing.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's not? I thought it was a wonderful city near New York.

Tthere are multiple casts. I think there are four groups of Rockettes, so each group performs once a day when there are four-show days. I'm not sure about the other dancers/performers, but I believe there are at least two people cast for each role.

I resisted the Christmas Spectacular for so many years because I thought I was too cool and the show would be too low-brow for a serious theater guy like me, but a few years back, Cablevision screwed up my employer's wireless internet and gave a bunch of us free tickets. Ever since then I've been going every other year or so and I really enjoyed it.
