But as anyone who has ever spent any time in Italy can tell you, not all middle aged Italian women look like Anna Magnani. Far from it.

That's not the point, Henrik. She is described as being more of a frumpy, middle aged woman. Not slim and beautiful and "obviously" desirable or sexually attractive by any means. It's part of her character and is essential to the story, as far as her behavior and the perception of her goes. Do you think Meryl Streep put on 30 pounds for the film version just for the fun of it?

If you think I thought all Italian women look like Anna Magnani, that's pretty insulting. And kinda bizarre.

And I've spent more than a little time in Italy, Henrik.

Next time, read the book first.

O'Hara is a great musical actress, however, I do agree with many posters on here-- she seems miscast in BRIDGES...

I think her as Anna in KING & I seems much more appropriate.
