Someone tell me, when is it my turn? - Angela Lansbury for Dame

Well, since it seems like it's a petition day here...

Today, the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours List has been released and British-born Angela Lansbury was once again snubbed for a Dame title, something she should've been given decades ago for her ever-lasting contributions to the world of art.
Unfortunately at 87, Ms. Lansbury is not getting any younger and this needs to happen before it's too late (in comparison Harriet Walter was awarded with this title at the age of 60).

Although Ms. Lansbury is no longer a UK citizen she's still eligible to receive the title.

If you agree, you can nominate Ms. Lansbury for the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by filling in the nomination form: https://www.gov.uk/honours/nominate-abroad

Thank you for your time and attention!

I thought she was uneligible, but if she isn't then she definetely deserves it.

Yes, she is eligible and although not a British citizen anymore, Ms. Lansbury still can get an honorary title.

Do you think The Queen doesn't know who Angela Lansbury is? Obviously, since she left Britain so early for Hollywood and is not a citizen anymore, there is no intrest in Damehood from the Crown.

The bulk (almost all) of Lansbury's work has been in service to the United States. She did Gypsy in 1973 in London (I don't know of any of her other work on the London stage - perhaps someone else does?) but remember she has five Tony Awards, not five Olivier Awards. She has two Academy Award nominations and a host of other American artistic honors. She has contributed more to American playwrights, composers and American theatre and film more than she has to the English arts in spite of the fact that she was born there.

This is the same thing as that Carol Channing-Kennedy Center Honors thread. People are not being realistic as to the criteria for these honors. Love Angela . I think she should be honored EVERYWHERE.... but..

I think you should all know it is the government that puts together the list of honorees each year and not the Queen herself. She may award the titles in a public ceremony but ultimately she is given a list by the government and generally gives her assent or otherwise denies it. Any possible Damehood for Lansbury is also quite political in nature, her grandfather was a former Labor Prime minister who came out against the first world war and in favor of the Russian Revolution who later became a socialist and her father was a part of the communist party in GB. DAME I don't think that's a real problem Liz Taylor got a dame hood and she didn't have too contribute too much to British cultural life either.

Angela Lansbury has contributed plenty to British culture and prestige by 70 years of outstanding achievements, including in UK. She's more than deserving to get an 'upgrade' from CBE she got 20 years ago.
If Elizabeth Taylor and Julie Andrews, who have been living abroad most of the lives can get the title so so should Ms. Lansbury.
People like Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates, Franco Zeffirelli were made KBE and yet none of them was even born in Britain.

"her grandfather was a former Labor Prime minister"

I'm afraid he wasn't.

Nope, he wasn't, but he was certainly a great man and politician.

George Lansbury was elected to parliament in 1910, he resigned his seat in 1912 to campaign for women's suffrage, and was briefly imprisoned after publicly supporting militant action.

In 1912 Lansbury helped to establish the Daily Herald newspaper, and became its editor.

He later served as the First Commissioner of Works under Ramsay MacDonald's Prime Ministry and later on as the Leader of the Labour Party.

His pacifism and his opposition to rearmament in the face of rising European fascism put him at odds with his party, and when his position was rejected at the 1935 party conference he resigned the leadership.

He spent his final years travelling through the United States and Europe in the cause of peace and disarmament.

Ms. Lansbury has said that she's attributing her strength and "iron constitution" to her grandfather that enables her to perform 8 times per week and tour on the side of the world till this day.
