They're just rehearsing two numbers from the show that will appear in a one night only performance. Mamie plays Eva in those two numbers. This performance isn't affiliated with the tour.
True, but the tour is slated to play Seattle this winter and is probably also acting as a press event. Wouldn't be surprised if Ford is sticking to the production as dance captain, somehow implying Mamie is involved? (maybe even as alternate?) Idk...might be thinking too much into it. All of this being said, I am hoping it is Caroline Bowman in the title role.
justincharacter, I would think that in a casting agent's eyes Sara Rameiz may be too tall for the role. I think she may be able to sing it phenomenally, but isn't Eva supposed to be short?
Eva was of average height-- 5'5. In my opinion, Sara is way prettier than Eva was, but she really has the wrong build. Except for a very short period of time after Juan was first elected, Eva was rail thin. She was either starving herself or, y'know, dying. She was also very pale. The differences may not matter so much in a production whose "curtain" isn't a giant painting of her.
Andy Kelso uploaded this #SIP of Caroline Bowman today, on Instagram...is it safe to say she's leaving for Evita? Also, if you were curious, Cortney Wolfson is replacing Caroline in Kinky Boots!
I would personally love to see Elena on the road even though I know that won't be happening. I really don't think that Elena was "worse" than other Evas. I did hear that she had some consistency issues, but still I like her take on Eva Peron. I also agree that part of the reason that people are more critical of her here is that we keep comparing her to Patti. Well, there is the fact that Patti is just a better singer, but I think part of the reason that Elena doesn't sound as strong has to do with the fact that this is a different interpretation of Eva Peron. I think that they were trying to focus more on Eva as a stateswoman and the political circumstances of the era, whereas the original Broadway production focused mostly on Eva as this extremely strong and fiery person. While Patti is my favorite, I really love all Evas (Elaine Paige and Elena Rogers...not so much Madonna though).
Whoever predicated Caroline Bowman as the touring Eva must by psychic! Bravo. Anyway, this might be in another thread, but ....... What's this about Patti LuPone being offered the role of Eva for this just recently finished revival? I mean, the idea is intriguing...but I must admit that I thought "whaaaat?" when I read that. I think it would have been all kinds of wrong. Just saying....
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Just like I predicted. :)Shell be great! To the above poster, I loved Elena too and would love to see her again but she's pregnant right now so it' would have been unlikely.
Elena had her child, and she did a concert not long ago. I would kill to see her on the road with the show, but that won't happen...unless it is a limited engagment. And while I love Elena, I am also excited to have a strong, belting Eva. I just hope the direction isnt as restrictive as the broadway show. I need a crazy Che and an Eva who is allowed to shine.
On that note: I maintain my love for Elena, and I believe that she received such poor reviews in New York because she was directed not to be the star of the show. Martin was given the spotlight and that is all people focused on. He was the what producers focused on and he sank the ship. Plain and simple.
Edit: I was misinformed about Elena giving birth. She hasn't had her child yet. I apologize.
Caroline is EXCEPTIONALLY talented. So thrilled the rumblings I posted about a few pages ago turned out to be true. Ya'll, we wanted and Eva with a voice. We got her! She's gunna rock this tour.
Josh Young is confirmed as "Che" in the Evita national tour. Per BWW.

To be honest EVITA doesn't look interesting to me and that's why I didn't see it on Broadway, but because of this casting I think I'm going to go see this in Providence! Cant wait!
