Happy Eliza Doolittle Day! |
Next week on the 20th of May, I proclaim Eliza Doolittle Day.
All the people will celebrate the glory of You and whatever you wish and want, I gladly will do.
"Thanks a lot, King," says I in a manner well bred,
"But all I want is 'Enry 'Iggins' 'ead!"

The only reason that I added "of course" after saying it's from "My Fair Lady" is that almost everyone knows that Eliza Doolittle is the protagonist in that show, even if they've never heard the less familiar songs.
In other words, TheaterDiva, I wasn't being snarky. I don't do snarky too well except when my target is the political party for which I wouldn't be caught dead voting. I can really twist the knife against those horse's patooties.
Old playbill article calls it Liza Doolittle day
I've always been curious if she's calling herself Liza or if it's her accent and she's dropping the "E" and saying 'liza. On the OBC it sounds like Julie Andrews says O'Liza Doolittle day and then later calls herself either Liza or 'liza again just dropping the "E" because of the accent. What does it say in the score and libretto? Anyone know?

Like me. I’ve never seen the movie but I have a ticket to the show in August.
Ahhhh, so true. Happy Eliza Doolittle Day!
I wonder if there was any audience reaction to the line at today’s performance...?

According to reports on All That Chat, Ambrose was out yesterday and today, so who went on for her instead? And how did they do?
Plus, weekend Tony voters will have to reschedule to see Ambrose.

Kerstin Anderson went on for all three shows. Positive reviews from what I've heard.
Kerstin Anderson went on as Eliza!!!! I heard she was great! She was Maria in the national tour of Sound of Music.
I did look at Telecharge and stubhub for tix today but both were out of my price range (telecharge has been sold out for today the past 2 weeks and stubhub tix never went below $300.)
Heard the line about the 20th of May today, but wasn’t sure if it was always the same date that she sang or if it changed. Fun!
