"We are so excited to announce, in honor of our 10 Year Anniversary, that we are hosting a WICKED Cruise! Join us on our voyage. Spots are available now!"
I think it´s just AMAZING!!! Even if I can not witness it. IMHO it´s a great idea, just soooo expensive. I wonder who will be the special guests. For that price they have to invite Idina and Kristen and because I´m such a fan of her, Willemijn too. I think there will be the usuall performances, but probably not on board but maybe when they reach the Bahamas. I wonder what the "Wicked Beach Olympics" will be. Sounds so exciting. I can not wait to learn who will attend that event.
If this is all they are going to plan for the 10th Anniversary...I'm gonna be PISSED. Come on! WICKED is one of the most successful shows in Broadway history...and this is how they are going to celebrate it?
And yes, as much as I love WICKED, getting stuck on a cruise with some of its more obsessive fans would scare me.
"Life in theater is give and take...but you need to be ready to give more then you take..."
I wouldn't imagine this would attract too young of a crowd (or many families): It's a school week, it's pretty expensive.
And it does sound pretty stupid.
And, no, I'm sure this isn't the only thing they'll do. But I wouldn't expect more than the actually anniversary date being a big deal. (MAYBE that entire week, but not too likely.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Sounds like fun for people into that sort of thing. Like any other themed cruise. I just assume any Wicked fan who enjoys cruises will probably like be around other Wicked fans who enjoy cruises.

Based on the description on the homepage it doesn't sound like it's a full charter which is a good thing. I've been on a theme cruise twice (Phil Coulter Tranquility Cruise) and that wasn't a full charter. They capped it at around 200 people and it was not manic or over-crowded. Were there people who didn't know how to behave? Sure, but you get that in any large group.
I imagine a full charter to much crazier and less intimate. Imagine 2000 or so Wicked fans? Scary.

Full charters are nicer for the entertainment staff. It gives most of them a mini vacation during their contracts, since the ship's regular entertainment is put on hold. The entertainment department's tech staff will still be busy if it is a full charter, but not as busy as they would be with a partial charter. WIth a partial charter the tech staff is really stretched, and sometimes they have to rely on able bodies to do the work for the special entertainment brought on board. I hope, for the ship's sake, it is a full charter.
Considering Wicked's fanbase is predominantly younger... who do they expect to actually buy tickets? Parents aren't going to be willing to shell out this kind of cash. The kids can't afford it. This sounds like a massive misfire to me.

I don't know how others do it but on the Phil Coulter Tranquility Cruise Phil had his own "tech" guys who ran the lights, sound, etc for the performances. Also. with the exception of a piano for Phil all the performers had their own instruments.

Usually it is both. The group brings extras, but the ships techs have to be there too.
What Wicked actresses will be interested in doing this? Sleep on a lower deck in a crew cabin for a week, to come up and sing a song hanging on a cable on the deck somewhere?
