not that I'm one bit surprised. The tour isn't selling and it's receiving poor reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if this never opens on Broadway unless some serious work is done.

Perhaps they should try Dirty Flashdancing.

Reading that the writers and producers aren't happy with it is making me a tad nervous to see the tour next week...

I saw the tour in New Orleans and was not impressed. The lead had a nice enough voice, but she was definitely not the strongest dancer on the stage. And that made it hard for me to root for her-when she's supposed to have a dream, and we're supposed to see that dream every time she dances and yet we don't...yeah. And aside from the two songs everyone knows ("Maniac" and "What a Feeling"), the score was just not that impressive. Easily the weakest show I've seen this season (funny enough, the producers in New Orleans thought that honor would go to Million Dollar Quartet, which sold VERY well).

Bwayphreak234 or OperaBwayLover, is the tour cast the same that was going to Broadway? The reason I ask. Jacksonville is having the tour in December (I think) and that would have been the same time as the Broadway production.

The tour cast was NOT the cast going to Broadway, at least en masse.

The tour has gotten mixed reviews, though I'd say mostly negative but a few very positive. I saw in Fort Lauderdale and thought it was fair, the problem was the book, and I'm glad that the producers seem to agree.

The chorepgraphy was great, but there was little chemistry between the leads.

Jillian Mueller took over for Emily Padgett and Katie Webber took over for Rachelle Rak, I think starting today. Rachelle would have been my reason for going to the show, but I might still check it out since it's Sergio Trujillo choreography. Doesn't look to positive for a Broadway run.

and so it begins. every type of theater would have likely been available. The following currently have, or will have, no tenant by July: Atkinson, Barrymore, Belasco, Booth, Circle in the Square, Cort, Golden, Kerr & Marquis.

I'd have gone to see this simply because my sister loves Matt Hydzik. Taking her would really be only reason to see it.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if the tour makes it to Chicago by August.

You are all wrong heard a whisper on this and its going in the Gershwin, they are going to close Wicked after the Christmas holidays, so should start previewing March 2014, expect to read this in Riedel's column tomorrow.

The tour is doing very well, but that is NO guide as to how a show will do in NY.

I'm not sayinig that the tour reviews have been good, they have been mixed to say the least. But there would be no reason at all to shut down the tour early.

If it's touring well why bring it to Broadway? It's just another added expense. I think Jekyll and Hyde should have just toured. It would probably be doing great business playing the smaller markets.

Footloose was mildly successful onstage, but Dirty Dancing and Flashdance appear to be more or less duds.

While many have argued that musical theatre needs much less irony after the last decade, in which irony was the go-to style, I feel like a "Eighties movie dance-ical" genre send-up would probably be better than most of the screen-to-stage ones have been.

Why did SAS Rak leave? She is the only reason I would go. That lady can DANCE!

I saw this... Honestly it was the most horrific and appalling thing I have seen in my entire life. It was so bad that it was wildly entertaining beyond belief. I don't even know where to begin... The projections looked like they were designed on the Sims 2 and taken from clip art. Some projections were super blurry, and others we super sharp, but looked like they were from a computer game. The book and score are an abominable mess. The jokes are AWFUL... Here's some of them...
"What do you call an amish guy with his hand up a horse's ass?" ... "a mechanic"
"Do you know French?" ... "Yeah. DOUCHE"
"Why can't you be more like Nick?" ... "Gene pools?"
It was hysterical. The book is weighed down by song after song... I do not remember one of the newly written songs. They all sounded exactly the same, and did nothing to advance the stale plot.
The set was actually okay, but they had no automation for any pieces but these two steel towers. This meant the stagehands awkwardly wheeled pieces on and off, and it looked REALLY bad. The lighting was probably the worst lighting design I have ever seen. I do not know how Howell Binkley (whose work I usually adore) could have had anything to do with this lighting.
I honestly don't even know what else to say. The cast was subpar with absolutely no standouts. The choreography was a mess, and none of the dancers were that great... Let me know if you have any questions.
