Anything Goes tour... |
I didn't care for this tour. LOVED the revival on Broadway, but this production did nothing for me. The sets and costumes both looked tacky, cheap, and worn, and Rachel York was awful. The otchestra sounded great though...

I saw the tour and thought it was sensational, especially Rachel York. Loved her take on Reno. Made it her own. I didn't see the B'way production, so I can't compare it to that. However, nothing about the tour looked cheap to me. The reviews I read before going were all very positive.
Here are a couple of Pittsburgh reviews:

I found the tour much more enjoyable than it's B'way big sister. Rachel York is a divine Reno Sweeney - I liked her far more than Sutton Foster, who to this day still incorporates "Millie" schtik and gestures in everything she's in. The sets on the road are basically identical to the NY version, and the rest of the cast is first-rate, too. I highly recommend.

I love me some Sutton Foster but Rachel York was Reno Sweeney. I thought she fit the role more than Sutton did and thought the production was great. Set-wise, there are very minor changes from the Broadway version but it's pretty much the same thing.

I saw this tour at a local theater and both my friend and I agreed it was the best show we had ever seen there such a fun show
Uh...I didn't care for it. I liked York, but the pacing of this version of the show is really droopy. It takes them an hour to get to the first dance number.
I'm also hearing this is absolutely worth seeing because of Rachel York. She is one dynamic wonderful actress/singer and overall really great lady! And my friend Chuck Wagner plays the Captain. More postive reviews than anything I've heard and read!
Give it a try!

Thanks guys :) I think I am going to go. It has been so long since I have seen a professional show (a year since NYC!!!) and I just want to see anything at this point. :P
Has anyone been to this theater before? I'm pretty broke and can only afford the $29 seats (and I am a seat snob, so this sucks). Will I be able to see anything?

I am from Pittsburgh and have been to Heinz Hall many times. the balcony is very good in this theatre. It is not cavernous and you can see faces for the most part, even in the last row. The only bad thing is sound sometimes travels weird in there, but it's not terrible.
Also, saw the show for the first time tuesday night. I think it is a fun old musical. The pacing can be a little slow, but I truly enjoyed it.

Hope you enjoy! I saw it a few months back and positively loved it! I work at my local Broadway tour venue (as well as attend shows as a patron) so I spent a week hearing/seeing the show, and I never got tired of it. Probably my favorite of this past touring season.

yet, bwayphreak234, the costumes and set (minus the hard portals that have been replaced with drops) are the exact same pieces from Broadway, so....?
