shallow Ghostlite? nah, realistic. i just saw cinderella and even the poor townspeople in the kingdom had perfect teeth. pretty sure they didnt have dental.

I might be wrong, but I'd guess that a lot of posters here had some sort of orthodontic work done when they were growing up.
I'm sure there are many actors who had additional work done, or had the work done when they were older and could pay for it themselves, but I would guess that a lot had it done at 11, 12, 13 anyway.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Yes, I mentioned Buscemi, Ken. He is a good example of an actor who has "bad" teeth who works a lot, which leads me, against my better judgement, to address this:

I said your first quote was shallow b/c, well, it is, not to mention incorrect. Not everyone feels the same way you do. Some of us can see past appearances or even manage to not care about them, as long as they're healthy. Your quote about the townspeople in the fictional Cinderella doesn't even make sense as a response. They're actors.
Last, you "hated" having braces. So I have to ask - given the choice, would you have chosen not to have braces, so that having "bad" teeth that shallow people like yourself wouldn't want to look at you?

GHOSTLIGHT. i don't think its shallow to prefer a guy with good teeth rather then bad. besides being aesthetically pleasing its a sign of good health and hygiene. but its all about personal preference, just like some prefer blondes. and you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
I think its naive to think looks and a especially a nice smile are not very important in Show Biz. you mention Steve B. before his current show, the thought was given his talent, that his looks were keeping him from making it past the weirdo GhostWorld Fargo type characters.. plus name me an actress under 50 with bad teeth. you cant unless shes a character actor.
i will admit, i am glad now i had them now but at the time i hated them, my lips and tongue were always all cut up, food got stuck in them, i got teased alot.

Character actors can have less than perfect teeth. Leading men and ladies need straight ones. Stage actors just need clean decent teeth as there are no close ups.
Ive been surprised at the stage door how many actors just have normal teeth-kinda straight, kinda yellow. Not perfect.
Film stars seem obsessed with the caps, whitening and perfect teeth. HD cameras are less forgiving now and you can see every hair and pore.
Most people look for healthy teeth in a prospective partner. If they have to kiss that mouth, they want it healthy.

"Bad" teeth, suestorm, do not necessarily mean unhealthy teeth nor do they necessarily have to do with hygiene. Many people in the US of a certain age have yellowed teeth due to childhood antibiotic use. Crooked ("bad") teeth are not a sign of ill health or bad hygiene. Braces can be painful and expensive, out of the price range of many people, can cause trauma from being bullied as you were, can sometimes can cause infection - and are usually not necessary. Artificially whitening teeth may be "aesthetically pleasing", but often isn't healthy and can result in pain and damage to enamel. The only opinion I've expressed is that your assertation that "nobody wants to look at people with bad teeth, whether youre dating or watching a show." was shallow (my opinion) - and incorrect (a fact - not everyone feels that way).

I know English is not your first language, but this sentence isn't entirely clear to me. Regardless, it's worth mentioning that Buscemi has been working steadily since the mid 80s. I think he's ok with it.
eta: Haven't you said you came from a poor family in Russia? How is it you were able to afford braces, and regardless of that answer, why do you now look down on people who were not so fortunate as yourself as unworthy to look upon?

OK Ghostlight, i dont want to argue with you, i respect your opinion. and youre right, the bullying was terrible, but perhaps that toughened me up.
what i meant by that sentence was that SB was considered a talented actor for a long time. What kept him in the opinion of some film buffs from being a bigger star were his non moviestar looks.

Reply to Darquegk re Minstrel show.I was in the 69/71 Australian/New Zealand tour of the George Mitchell Minstrels.The colour question never entered into the equation then-it was just a job imitating the Minstrel shows of old.It wasn't until we got to New Zealand that the coloured question arose but was never a problem or controversial.It was hugely successful of it's time--it wouldn't be now-then it was just music hall variety entertainment.
PS.The show was brought to Australia by the same producer who gave the Beatles their first major break outside of England--Ken Brodziak.

Yeah, Carlos, thank you, I did say it was against my better judgement.
As it happens, I have spent a fair amount of time in the former Soviet Union, and am very aware of what their dental coverage and efficacy was like. It might have been cheap, but it wasn't very good.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that unhealthy, decaying teeth are good. The question being are "perfect" teeth necessary? Given the above statement, Bettyboy is not agreeing with you on that point.

What decision? The discussion is about actors and whether they need "perfect" teeth in order to get work. Obviously they don't, and both Betttyboy and I have cited cases of that.
I could not possibly care less whether you prefer unnaturally whitened and straightened teeth, and would never dream of changing your mind about that fetish. I wish you luck with that. Unhealthy teeth are a completely different issue, and are not the subject of this thread. I'm not at all angry, just trying to keep to the subject. My teeth are fine, btw. Thanks for your "concern".
