According to their Facebook page, Broadway in Boston will be announcing its upcoming season around 5:45 pm tonight. What do you hope/expect will come through? I would like to see the Newsies and Nice Work if You Can Get It tours come to Boston, but I have a feeling we will get Mamma Mia and Wicked for the umpteenth time (Wicked for the current season hasn't even played yet).

Eccch. There's so much great stuff happening at Huntington and Trinity Rep and The Gamm, I am more interested in the ART and ArtsEmerson announcing their seasons.
There's a season announcement event at the Opera House for subscribers tonight. I'll report back if no-one else has posted the line-up by the time I get home. I did hear that two of the shows will be "Flashdance" in March 2014 and a return engagement of "The Lion King" for 5 weeks in Aug/Sept 2014. I also suspect "Ghost" may be one of the shows, as the design of the invitation to the announcement event looked a lot like the "Ghost" marketing visuals, which they tend to do as a teaser.
Blah. I don't know much about Ghost (and all I have to base Flashdance off is the movie), but so far that sounds like a pretty dismal season. I think I'm most disappointed at another return engagement of The Lion King. While I don't dislike the show by any means, it did come by twice already.

Actually just looked at the Broadway in Boston website on a lark, and they must have been doing some deployments in the back end, as for a brief moment the listings for the new shows were up:
Million Dollar Quartet, Oct. 8-20 We Will Rock You, Nov. 5-10 (season special) A Christmas Story, Nov. 20-Dec. 8 (season special) I Love Lucy, Dec. 3-22 (season special) Once, Jan. 7-19, 2014 American Idiot, Feb. 7-9, 2014 (season special) Flashdance, Mar. 11-23, 2014 Phantom of the Opera, June 11-July 20, 2014
No Ghost it seems, and perhaps they are saving The Lion King to kick off the 2014/2015 season. Somewhat surprised we're not getting Evita.
Hmm...I'm looking forward to a couple of those, but I am still slightly underwhelmed. And it would be nice to revisit Phantom - haven't seen that since high school!

Meanwhile, we already know there's potential for some real nourishing theater all around the area next season. The Gamm in Providence will set their up-close and personal sights on "Good People," perhaps besting the Huntington's exquisite production this year.
The New Rep is doing area premieres of plays by Ellen McLaughlin and Deb Margolin, as well as bringing in James Fluhr's "Our Lady," which played the NY Fringe.
Trinity Rep is mounting "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" and "Oliver!"
And of course, The Huntington will have the Zimmerman "Jungle Book" in the fall.
Most of the companies haven't even announced their complete line-ups and we haven't even heard from ART or ArtsEmerson. So nobody has to try and make do with We Will Rock You and Flashdance.
