Nearly everybody in the cast live-tweeted -- and have been post-tweeting. I wonder if this is an effort to co-opt the hate-watching.

I might as well use this thread to link to the professional TV critics' reaction to Smash.
The most negative so far was from the NY Times "...the show was no good right from the start...T]here are not many signs that the show is taking a turn toward anything better "
More usual are these comments from the San Francisco Chronicle: "The second season kicks off with a terrific two-hour show Tuesday night that should be a textbook example to other show runners on how to bring the audience along as you make significant changes to a troubled show."

I don't think the cast tweeting was anything extraordinary. The cast members (at least the ones I noticed) who were live-tweeting tend to tweet a lot anyhow. They were just excited. A lot of Twitter love going on that night.

Ernst, it's true that a lot of them use Twitter regularly, but not all of them. At least one, Krysta Rodriguez, explicitly said she was not used to being on Twitter. And what made me suspect this was an orchestrated campaign were the hashtags that both Jeremy Jordan and Andy Mientus used -- not just #smash but #smashtag and #CurtainsUp. But as I say in the blog post, it doesn't matter to me whether or not this was suggested by the NBC marketers. It was still fun to read.

It seemed like an orchestrated event from the network. Especially with the #CurtainsUp hashtag. However, #smashtag appears to have been created by the account "annoying actor friend" and not NBC.
