Should they bring Alfie Boe into the broadway revival of Les Mis. I think they should bring him in.

He's like Josh Groban, great voice but not really an actor.

Yeah, I agree. I love his voice, but his acting is great. And he is quite unreliable, with a lot of time off sick. Plus I think he is happy touring his albums now instead, would take a lot to get him back into the theatre.

He was not off due to illness THAT much.

Cameron Mackintosh said recently that there is an offer on the table for Alfie to return to Les Mis. There is no indication right now that he will but Alfie's team doesn't make such announcements until everything is finalized.

Edited to add a comment about Alfie's acting. I saw him twice at the Queens theatre as Valjean and thought he was great. His acting had greatly improved from the first time I saw him on a stage in 2007, when he did Kismet.

Am wondering whether those of you who question Alfie Boe's acting abilities actually saw him on stage at the Queens Theatre, or whether you are simply basing your opinions on the 02 Anniversary Concert?

The 02 concert was just that, a concert. Although it was costumed and semi-staged, all the singing was done standing in front of a microphone facing the audience. To me, Alfie's portrayal of JVJ's journey was impassioned and moving, and totally believable.

Nothing compares though with seeing [as I did on two occasions] Alfie's performance at the Queens Theatre. It seemed to me that he actually became JVJ on that stage and he drew the audience into JVJ's world so completely that it was only at the very end of the curtain call that Alfie Boe reappeared!

I definitely think Alfie should reprise the role on Broadway - I for one would be first in the queue for tickets!

I like his voice, but he just doesn't fit the role physically. Way too small in stature. They would need a tiny Javert.

He's not that short; Hadley Fraser was Javert to Alfie's Valjean at Queens and it worked fine.

First of all Mr. Boe was never "unreliable" as an actor during his run at the Queen's Theatre, he was ILL! People do get sick you know(that IS why they have understudies after all) AND in truth he didn't miss any more performances than the average actor of that production. So please everyone, give that a rest.

YES, Alfie Boe should definitely play JVJ on Broadway! I saw Mr. Boe's JVJ on the West End and his performance was truly memorizing. He was not Alfie Boe on that stage, he WAS JVJ from opening scene convict to aged and dying loving father and that coupled with his amazing voice would make Broadway all the brighter. Alfie Boe was made for this role and this role was made for Alfie Boe. I've read that the offer is on the table for him and I am SO hoping he can work it into his schedule and that he does indeed agree to reprise his brilliant performance on Broadway. If/when he does, I will be the first in line for it.

Would Alfie and the revival be eligible for Tony nominations? Do you think they'd get any?

I have a weird feeling that this Les Mis will have HUGH JACKMAN. Since it's billed as a limited engagement, it might just happen...

I doubt this revival will be a limited engagement. However, the 2006 revival was orginally scheduled to be a limted engagment but later became open-ended until it closed in January 2008.

^^^ True, but I have a feeling the will use Jackman as a headline just to get things rolling...if it becomes a open-ended run then great!

I see your point. But it appears that Alfie Boe,is reportedly in talks of reprising his role in the 2014 revival.

I like Alfie as a singer, but as an actor he just isn't my cup of tea, to be honest..

And YES to Brian D'Arcy James! I would LOVE to see that!

Jackman in the revival? I doubt that. Cameron has control of the stage production, and he wanted Boe in the movie. Besides, Jackman could barely hit those high notes on a movie set, how's he going to do it 6x/wk live?

"Dead eyes"?? Please clarify. I've seen Alfie perform in different performances over the last 5.5 years and always found his eyes very expressive.
