ACT 1 & Actors Bridge Ensemble proudly announce auditions for a special collaborative production of Sarah Ruhl's IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY).
Auditions will be Saturday, January 26 (12pm-4pm) at the Actors Bridge Studio @ Neuhoff (100 Monroe Street)
Callbacks will be Monday, January 28, by invitation.

Synopsis: "In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) is a comedy about marriage, intimacy, and electricity.
Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity and based on the bizarre historical fact that doctors used vibrators to treat 'hysterical' women (and some men), the play centers on a doctor and his wife and how his new therapy affects their entire household.
In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.
No monologue required; auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Characters available (ages are fluid, over/under):
* Dr. Givings (30s/40s) - A specialist in gynecological and hysterical disorders
* Cathering Givings (late 20s) - Wife to Dr. Givings
* Sabrina Daldry (late 20s/early 30s) - A patient to Dr. Givings
* Annie (late 20s/early 30s) - Assistant to Dr. Givings
* Leo Irving (late 20s-40s) - Another patient to Dr. Givings
* Elizabeth (late 20s-30s) - An African-American woman and a wet-nurse by default
* Mr. Daldry (late 30s or 40s) - Sabrina's husband
Performances will be March 7 through 16, 2013 (Thursdays thru Sundays) at the Darkhorse Theater.
