Rumour is that Cameron will put in the US Tour of Les Mis from August through to January 2013 at The New Amsterdam...

The linked article just came out in Toronto today. The article mentions that members of the current US tour may be in a new Toronto company this September. Presumably the physical production will end up in Toronto as well.

If Les Mis is to play the Amsterdam Idk why Mary Poppins is to close in March for the New Amsterdam year a year of renovations especially since the show is still making some money.
The only reason for Les Mis to play the New Amsterdam is in part of a backroom deal between Disney and Makintosh so Disney could close Mary Poppins to bring in Aladdin and in turn Makintosh would get to use the theater to house a touring production of Les Mis for 4 months.

*correction (backroom not backwoods) sorry on my iPad...silly autocorrect* Updated On: 1/17/13 at 10:23 AM

Isn't the tour a pretty "small" production?

The tour isn't really "small". It's just not very good.

The only reason to bring this show back to Broadway is if there is a dynamic new staging. If they just intend to recycle the ancient turntable and do a replica production, this is nothing but a blatant and cynical money grab.

Broadway a blatant and cynical money grab? Now that's a shock.

How about an all midget production?

this tour really was terrible. The cast would have to be phenomenal to get me in the building.

They don't use the turntable and replicate the original. It's a whole new design.

I just saw the tour Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. The only thing I did not like was the staging for "Master of the House" It looked very cramped on the stage and the actos looked like they were on top of each other (besides the ones that are actually sitting on each other). Now maybe it was my seat as I was 3rd row, orechestra left of the isle, but possibly not. You can tell they only use the set space desgined for the show, benedume is a fairly large stage. If it woould have used the stage space, it would have been fine. I love the staging for "Empty Charis at Empty Tables".

In the tour, the parade of deaths at the barricade was one of the silliest things I've ever seen. It looked like the introduction of contestants from So You Think You Can Dance.

I saw the tour Tuesday also. Not a fan of the staging. Gavroche dying off stage loses some impact. The stage looked cramped the whole time. 40 actors and such a small foot print. The turn table is missed in certain parts and the original barricade being unveiled is also missed.

I agree "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" was beautifully staged and added an emotional punch that seems to be missing in places. This production would look tiny at the New Amsterdam.
