Annie Preview Thread |
I'm going to the first preview on Wednesday night. I've actually been looking forward to this revival for as long as I can remember, being a huge Annie fan and all. I'm already writing a review for the annieorphans.com message board and my tumblr blog, so I will be sure to copy and paste everything into this thread when it's all finished.
I'll be there on Wednesday too. I've never seen a professional production of it, and I grew up listening to the music, so I'm very excited.

I'm curious to know how it feels in that gigantic theater. I remember it feeling so dark when I saw WSS.
Salene: YES. Can't wait. But I do like Annie.

I'm kind of worried for it already. I just looked at Ticketmaster and the theater is EMPTY tomorrow night and even worse for Thursday.
I love that this is coming from Jordan H -- who's an Australian, and a fan of Douglas Hodge, a Brit working in the US.

I am not trying to be rude,I genuinely want to know why people think Now is the time for an annie revival -_-
When would the right time be? That's not a snarky answer, it's just a general question. Opening a show is always hit or miss, and you just never know.

And it's not like it was just on Broadway four years ago.
Updated On: 10/2/12 at 02:40 PMIs there some kind of celestial clue to when a revival the right time? Did the Mayans predict a revival of CITY OF ANGELS?

ANNIE is such a popular show with the world. It's a classic on broadway and in the minds of the world. The last revival was in 1997.I think they should wait another 20 more years to revive it. In my opinion, reviving it now would almost rob the show of what it deserves. The US tour just ended 2 years ago,so i figure the american public has seen enough of ANNIE,also Matilda is coming to broadway soon so that just screams competition of the 1o year olds.
Plus there has been all this talk of an ANNIE remake film coming out next year with Willow smith.Thats WAYYYY to much ANNIE in one year.
ANNIE is an amazing feel good musical but to much exposure of it could be its downfall.Just my 2 cents.

Just adding 'abother two cents worth!'
Anthony Warlow is a fabulous performer, and is really well worth seeing as Daddy Warbucks - he certainly brings a 'certain something' to the role, which I certainly have never seen
before !
Saw him here in Australia - and had to go back a second time.....just to make sure !
As to 'why now?' Well, I don't know how long they are hoping for it to run - but surely they have their eye on the Festive market (which is just round the corner) a great show for the 'young ones' over the Christmas period !
Will be great to hear what everyone thinks of this new production !

and Matilda will get 10 tonys like its not hard to guess it will win the tony for best musical. If you do not know this you must be on another planet. The musical is so perfect its not funny.
Well, it seems quite obvious that this revival will be short lived. If I were to place a bet, I would set a January closing date.
