Who should play Buddy in Elf? |
I do wish Noah would come back and do this but he's happy out in LA and said he won't be coming back...
that's too bad. Michael Longoria would potentially be good in look but not sure if he could do the comedy. He's probably busy doing some "Jersey Boys" or Frankie Valli-related thing.
Michael Longoria is significantly short, which is completely inappropriate for a character whose height in comparison to his fellow elves is a huge joke throughout the show.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I would love to see someone more in the physical mold of a Will Ferrell body type than we had last year. Sebastian's performance, much like his physical appearance, was rather elfin- a little bit fey, perhaps, with his slim, boyish looks and Broadway style physique.
Granted, "Elf" the musical is not "Elf" the movie, but to me, one of the inherent charms of the film is that Will Ferrell is so obviously NOT elfin in any way, performance wise or physically. He is a grown man (perhaps even an OVERGROWN man), slightly chubby and hirsute, with the personality of a Christmas elf meets six year old child.
Someone like Dan Fogler or Josh Gad (when he's a little older) would be ideal for me as Buddy the Elf- the sort of guy who doesn't look physically like he's about to sing, dance and flutter about, but does nonetheless.

CurtainPullDowner, Andy Karl is in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD.

Umm, he's not an elf. Duh. You're title should be "Who should play Buddy the Immature Homosexual Human?".
Theatre is my life. No one can take that away from me.
To be fair, Quiche2, despite your snark, the character's given name is "Buddy the Elf." The fact that he isn't an elf, and is quite camp (MUCH more so than in the film, though ostensibly still straight) doesn't change the fact that he was raised under, and maintains the name, Buddy the Elf, all the way to the curtain call song.
I believe Andy was unable to commit due to his conflict with 'Drood'.
Sad, because he certainly would be good. What about someone like Andrew Kober?

Andy Karl was my second suggestion! What about Nic Rouleau? He would never leave Mormon to do it, though.

The question was who "should", not who "could".
If someone suggested Longoria (who actually is an elf)
I think it's OK to mention Karl.
Is Sebastian doing anything else?
Is he still in JBOYS?

Sebastian Arcelus is unavailable because of a TV series.

yeah, I guess I completely missed that one about Longoria. I think Gavin Creel would have been a nice choice (he has the cute look, clear voice, moves well, and clearly has no inhibitions on stage) but he's on tour with BOOK OF MORMON. Matthew Morrison would be good stunt casting but I don't particularly think he's a good actor, especially for the comedy necessary for the role.

Absolutely. :) I fully endorse all mentions of Andy Karl, he'd be wonderful. I can't wait to see who ends up with the part!
