"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
CATSNYRevival - Yes! I noticed that too. I went flipping thru the book thinking they might have assembled it wrong, then I thought "They left out a page!" And then I realized it's just a word that's missing. lol
Anyway, I think this recording is just beautiful. The performances all around are fantastic. There are some changes from the 88 score to this that I don't love (Do Me A Favor ...) but it is a wonderful recording and I can't stop listening to it.
I, personally, don't mind receiving an early digital copy since my orders usually take two extra days to get here. (I know, for some, it's even longer.)
But, I don't think asking on the boards is the best place for that type of request.
It's not. You people BEG for cast recordings and steal them the SECOND they're released and a lot of times before they're released. You people are the reason so few shows get recorded now. This "OMG U GUYZ! Mine is in the mail and I can't wait!" lie is no different than "I don't get paid until next week! I gotsta have it now!!!!!" No, you don't have to have it now. You can wait for your copy to come in the mail or wait until you have the money to buy it yourself and support the label.
I could care less if you want a bootleg of a the show. Ask away for someone to send it to you (in the right places, of course) but as far as official cast recordings go - you kids need to realize that you're not entitled to it just cuz u wants it.
^Only IF you didn't buy a copy for yourself and you're just waiting for the damn mail man to bring it. Jordan is correct that a lot of people lie about it, I'm just saying it's not always a lie.
I got mine, and I'm really happy with how they made all the teen stuff sound. Sure is great to finally have a Cast Recording. I have always loved this musical and fans are jumping up and down for this!
Great album! Marin sounds fantastic! I'll always be more partial to the Mother/Daughter scenes and songs, but the whole product here is terrific! Bravo!
The ironic part is that I'd be totally content with a true soundboard recording of most shows. Realistically, would most of us be discontented with a soundboard recording of a show that wouldn't make enough money for a studio recording?
^I'd prefer that over most cast recordings, actually. I really like listening to the whole show and there are very few cast recordings that do that. Carrie definitely could have benefited from a little bit more dialogue here and there. Updated On: 9/21/12 at 11:17 PM
I would have many more cast recordings than I have now should that be the case. I'd probably try completing my collection with as many casts as I have seen should they be available.
I think best12bars might have made a similar comment about this in the past, but it is clear listening to the recording that Mazzie's classically trained soprano voice is PERFECT for the religious flavour of the songs (e.g. Open Your Heart; Evening Prayers) and the contrast from these songs to when she belts Eve Was Weak and I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance is thrilling..
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
