I think I personally would have picked Dimitry's over Sonjia's if we were actually talking about a real woman, and not the Marie Claire editorial version of a real woman, but Sonjia's was very good and I think she's going to be one of the finalists if she keeps up this pace.

And sadly, Jane, I think you are right about Gunnar getting to stay because he makes for good television (i.e. DRAMA), though Christopher is starting to inch into that zone as well with all of his crying and subtle "the world does revolve around me" attitude that is showing up more and more as we go along. I've come to realize that I ultimately end up disliking anyone who uses the over-emotional "I just want this SOOOO bad" tactic on the runway in front of the judges, as if nobody else feels that way (and yes, even though it was shown that two people did feel that way, I still hate the use of that tactic).

I will say that one of the blogs (I think it was Nick's?) revealed something that I hadn't realized, that being that the "aufed" designers are kept sequestered and are still carted around with those still competing in case they are spotted in public and thus nothing is revealed about who is still in and who is out. That makes Andrea fleeing in the middle of the night all that much more intriguing, as I'm sure, if they wanted, Lifetime could have gone after her for a breach of contract (because I'm sure the sequestering and all that is part of the contract that they sign). I mean, I always figured that the most recent designer eliminated was kept nearby for a few days, just for these types of "we need to bring somebody back" situations, but I guess I never thought about the producers keeping them the entire time and making them still be seen in public with the others.

It makes sense, I suppose. It likely isn't that hard to find them out and about, it you are looking for them.

They MUST get some compensation for being a part of the show, yes? I would think it boring as hell just hanging around to make things look good. Good editing that we've never caught them on camera, then. Hope they brought a lot of good books with them!

It's all part of the deal they sign.

Now it makes more sense when I hear people saying they gave up EVERYTHING to be on the show. Their jobs, apartments...

I hope it worth it!

Though I will, for some of them who come from somewhere like L.A. or NYC, I don't understand the "giving up my apartment" comments. Really? You've never heard of a sublet?

From what I have heard from people who have applied and made it fairly far into the process there is very little compensation for being on the show, unless you win. And then the deal is so restrictive that some of the winners have opted not to accept the prize, such as Jay McCarroll who won the first season (I've heard that the restrictions on that first season were so insane that he would have basically been giving Bravo everything he made, so they've eased up a bit to try to avoid other winners from declining the prize package)

I remember hearing that Jay didn't accept the prize at the end.

I always want these shows to do those "where are they now" follow ups -- just to see if any of them are making a living in their field.

Yes, and how about when he SO confused when Buffi didn't want to take his "constructive criticism." Who appointed him the arbiter of good taste? Since when is he in a position to give the other contestants constructive criticism?

Yes, I see him all over the place....but there's a lot of others I'd like to hear about -- winners and near misses.

So many of the contestants came into the show already having some sort of business/clientele, it would be interesting to see if the show has made any difference.

Regarding the compensation for being a contestant, I have a friend who was on a similar reality competition show where the contestants received $100 per episode.

I'm really starting to get tired of Ven. He's used the same technique on every dress he's made so far. I was really impressed with him on the "Road To The Runway" but since the competition has started he's just remade variations of the same three looks he presented on "Road To The Runway." His cockiness is really getting annoying too. He boasts how talented he is in every confessional he gives.

as to compensation for the contestants...is there not a SAG daily minimum? or has reality TV carved out an exemption of some sort? if so, no wonder it's so insidious....

I doubt there is any SAG/AFTRA regulation.

I really hate Ven. His designs are very good but personally, he's one of the bigger douche bags the show has seen in quite a while.

Ven has had some nice work, but it's all variations of the same aesthetic and getting monotonous. He's sort of becoming the new Santino. Hated seeing Buffi go because I like her personality, but what she made was truly atrocious. Still, I think Raul should have been sent packing. What he made was just as bad and when they criticized Buffi for making the same mistakes, Raul was making the same mistakes even after he had already been sent home. Both of them were going home soon, anyway, but I just think they got the order all wrong.

Maybe they saved Raul because they just brought him back. Maybe they'll give him another week or two!

How many of the "aufed" designers who have gotten a second chance have actually made use of that second chance and learned from their mistakes? I think Chris March was the only one who has successfully done that, getting brought back and then making it practically to Fashion Week (he was one of those who got to make a collection but then still have to compete to have it showcased once they returned to NYC for Fashion Week). God, I miss the talent from those days. I know I'm sounding like an old humbug or something, but the show just seems to be attracting designers who are becoming more and more about the personality and less and less about producing quality work.

i think they kept Raul because of his visual impact: he comforts older viewers by subliminally making them recall that TV forefather, Squiggy.

I agree that the show seems to be driven more by personality, conflict, drama, than talent these days. Why else would they have as many group challenges as they now do if not to stir the pot and create tension. I watch Real Housewives when I want to see egomaniacs scream at each other. I watch Project Runway to watch talented people competitively create. It's still one of my favorite shows but I wish the focus was on the clothes rather than the fighting.

Yet another team challenge this week, because lord knows we needed more of the crazy that these challenges always bring out. I see that Elena is really racing to become the next Wendy Pepper (another position that will never be truly taken by any up and coming wannabe). It made me very happy to see the bottom two, because either way a terrible designer and a terrible attitude were going home.

And so thankful for Joanna Coles and her wonderful comment:

I don't think its fair to blame the contestants, this is how they are selected.

All reality tv turns this way. It's how to be better than the previous season.

The first two Real Worlds were really interesting, now they cast to purposefully create conflict and drunken chaos.

Of course-they are selected for the very thing we're doing-talking about them. That's the point. Just like all the "reality" shows, lol.

I guess we'll never hear the rest of the Raul/Chris love affair. Or rather the Raul love affair with Chris.

Jane, for some reason I was going more with the "just doesn't wash his hair" method of styling. For some reason he just looked like a smelly kid.
