"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
Into the Woods could be told from The Narrator's POV...like The Princess Bride...just have a grandparent telling the story to a grandchild.
Are there any Siblings out there that could play the Princes...maybe Luke and Owen Wilson? Also what about the Princes being Werewolves...that's a trend right now.
I vote Vanessa Williams for the Stepmother with Beyonce and Solange Knowles as the step sisters.
EDIT: Never mind on the Werewolves...Spoiler...since the wolf dies at the hand of the Baker. Can't have our Princes dying prematurely...lol

Daniel Radcliffe as Jack? Dear lord no. I like him a lot as an actor, but there is no way he would be able to handle Giants in the Sky. He can carry a tune fairly well, but I don't think he'd do well with this material. Besides, I think he'd look a little too old on screen.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
What is wrong with Chris Colfer? Did I miss something? Or does he have the GLEE taint you f^cking queens are so embarrassed that you secretly love you must deny anything GLEE.
Lea Michelle is one of the most talented people ON THE PLANET!
There. I just wanted to explode all your disgusting heads.
Witch - CZJ Baker - Neil Patrick Harris Baker's Wife - Martha Plimpton
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I think people either like his voice or they don't. I am one of the people who is not a fan of his voice. If they someone from 'Glee' were to play Jack then maybe they should have either Darren Criss or Chord Overstreet.
I also think that if Samantha Barks leaves a mark in 'Les Miz', they might consider her for a role in the movie. Plus, she will have ties with the Disney company since she has a show on the Disney Channel coming soon.
ETA: Idina Menzel would be great as the Witch as well. But she might be focusing on her concerts and voicing the Snow Queen in the animated film, 'Frozen'.

My original thought was "I just hope that they don't cast Milky White with a real cow!" But, since I'm here, I might as well take a second to throw my hat into the ring:
Baker - Christian Borle Baker's Wife - Laura Benanti The Witch - Audra McDonald Cinderella - Kelli O'Hara Rapunzel - Laura Osnes Cinderella's Prince/Wolf - Stephen Pasquale Rapunzel's Prince/Wolf - Colin Donnell Jack - Michael Arden Little Red - Annaleigh Ashford The Mysterious Old Man - Colm Wilkinson Jack's Mother - Faith Prince Cinderella's Stepmother/The Giant's Wife - Christine Ebersole Cinderella's Father - Brad Oscar Cinderella's Mother - Marin Mazzie Lucinda - Daisy Eagan Florinda - Andrea McArdle The Steward - Zack Braff The Narrator - Harvey Fierstein
dreaming...i love the idea of Charlize Theron as the witch...i too thought she was terrific in Snow White when i wasn't looking at Chris Hemsworth...CZJ would also be ok...and i love CHRIS COLFER for JACK...he can sing and he has the right upper range for Giants In The Sky...which is my fantasy 'audition' song...tehe
Catherine Zeta-Jones? Nicole Kidman? Helena Bonham Cater? Amanda Seyfried? Wow, you guys are so incredibly close-minded! You can't imagine anyone playing these characters other than actors who have already done "movie musicals".
And now you want Charlize Theron to play the evil witch, when she already played a similar role like that in another fairy tale-related movie! You want her to be a typecast now?
You guys seriously need to come up with someone less obvious. Try thinking outside the box.
For example, I think Hunter Parrish would be great as Jack. He has a great voice, he is well-known from the show "Weeds", and he played Melchior in "Spring Awakening". He is popular, but also low-key.
Another thing, Little Red Riding Hood needs to be cast by a YOUNG GIRL, hence the word "little". Emma Stone is a grown 23-year-old woman! And since when can she sing??
LOL. Is a newbie really trying to scold us over this?
What does me being a "newbie" have anything to do with this? Either way, some of the suggestions here are not very original. It's always the same, Catherine this or Nicole that. Come on.
That's cute BroadwayStar4. Welcome to the board, you will probably get eaten alive here. These are the names that get thrown around because these are the actors that actually do movie musicals. Very much like Gene Kelly, Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones, or Debbie Reynolds used to do. There are movie actors who do movie musicals over and over again, of course they will be the ones you think of first. Dream casting can be fun, but practical casting makes for a better discussion. As for Ms. Theron, no one is type casting her. The last witch she played is a very different beast. The role of the witch in Into the Woods has to be attacked from a comedic stand point. She is not a villain, she is the only practical character in the show, the only one who sees things for what they are, and still makes some very human mistakes, all while seeing both the tragedy and humor in it. Her role in Snow White was pretty much a cookie cutter villain, selfish, arrogant, unloving, thinking only of herself, and quite evil. She did it well, but didn't really have much to work with.
Hunter Parish? Now that's really thinking out of the box, An actor who has already done Some stints on Broadway and has singing chops. When I think of out of the box casting I think of actors who have never sat foot in a musical and has done little singing until that moment of doing one. Names like Seyfried, Bohnam Carter, and Zeta Jones are what sale Movie musicals, and they are the actresses that love doing them. Each actress has given a pretty damn good performance in each respective roles they've played on film and fit the bill of Into the Woods.
I can see Theron playing the role a lot like she played Mavis in Young Adult and that thought makes me very, very happy. That was one of the most underrated performances of last year. She was bitchy, sexy, sarcastic, world weary, terrifying, and heartbreaking all at once. Just what we need from a witch.
BroadwayStar4, big names sell tickets. It's hard enough to get a musical in movie theaters as it is, they need big names to draw people in. While I see your point, Hunter Parrish didn't exactly draw sold out houses for Godspell. His is not yet a huge name.
