Didnt' we just go thru this with Godspell? Are they hoping for divine intervention?
(Although I love that BWW had to delete the other post about the same thing-- although without any proof -- just to be able to announce!)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I don't understand why they put the qualifier there.
It's closing. There would be no reason to expect that business would somehow dramatically improve over the next 12 days. Besides, even if it somehow miraculously did, no one is buying tickets now for after July 1, and if they suddenly extend, their advance would be horrendous.

If there's one more Jesus musical next year, can we ban it from getting any Tony nominations? This crop this year pretty much worked themselves out that way but who knows what will happen in the future.

I think JCS and Godspell cancelled each other out. Godspell was doing ok, not great, until JCS came along. Maybe if JCS opened next year, both would have enjoyed longer runs. Thoughts?
Yes, this, GODSPELL, and LEAP OF FAITH all closed at a loss because they have to do with religion. Not because they weren't good productions. Yup. That's it.
And I wasn't aware this show was "competing" with GODSPELL to see who gets the "last laugh." JCS looked like a flawless masterpiece compared to GODSPELL.
Out of curiosity I just compared the cumulative grosses for both shows. Godspell grossed $10,800,419 (which is 39.86% of its potential for the run). and Jesus Christ Superstar grossed $9,699,143 (which is 51.76% of its potential for its run). I think it's interesting we had both of these shows during the same season, and neither did very well. It will probably be a very long time before we see another revival of either show.
