Oh please...he was better than that honey glazed ham that was that year's winner.
Clooney was terrific, and I loved that movie. Jones was dour in a horribly dour picture. I could imagine thinking Mortensen deserved it.
Depp was wonderful in the movie...which I also thought was terrific. The autotuning doesn't really bother me. Hell, Deborah Kerr was completely dubbed in THE KING AND I, and I wouldn't have minded her winning that year.
She also won the Grammy that year for the Dreamgirls cast album (Best R&B Female Vocalist---and I believe this may be the only time in history when a singer has won a Grammy for a cast album performance, but I may be wrong)
Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for Dreamgirls.
So we need a TV "Effie" to win an Emmy, and you will have your "proper" EGOT.

I agree wholeheartedly with RobbieJ's comments on Daniel Day Lewis. The man makes me cringe. I'm not sure who should have won the Oscar that year, but I will never understand why people go gaga for this man. Quiet, subtle, understated performances are really the tricky feat to achieve - what DDL does is just...dreadful.
