I don't think it's Menken unless he is the one producing the cast album for this show or any of the other shows he is interested in recording. But despite the show's short life on Broadway, I am kind of glad to see this nominated Best Musical perform. However, it does take away time that other shows may have had to perform or any other performances in the ceremony. Time to gather up the troops for rehearsals, huh?
"However, it does take away time that other shows may have had to perform or any other performances in the ceremony."
Honestly, only nominated musicals should be performing the first place. None of this silly "look, here's some performances we've seen before!" from the last few years.
Outside of special tributes to artists.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Speaking from my one-room shack out here in the hinterlands, I'd like to see a number from LEAP OF FAITH, just to get a taste of what ya'll have been talking about.
I agree, but for "other shows" I still wish we'd get more medleys, especially from FOLLIES and maybe extended numbers. And other performances similar to last year's Jackman/Harris number which I thought was pretty funny.
From the NY Times article, "The telecast production number for “Leap of Faith” is still being worked out, the executives said, and they did not know if the show’s star, Raúl Esparza, would perform."
I would like to see them perform the finale title number. Only song from the musical that was worth it.
I just dont understand the desire to do this. With films, I get it. you can make a lot of money in DVD sales after the fact. An Oscar, SAG, GG nod can increase DVD sales and help a film make money.
However, with a shuttered musical that was poorly recieved, there just seems no reason. This monstrosity better not tour a clog up a spot in my season line up.

They're doing it for Touring and record sales. Also so that it will be more presentable to regional companies.
I think there's some pride in there two. I don't know if it's ever happened before, but I think that Menken would be embarrassed if his nominated musical didn't perform.
Embarrassed? Really? Not performing at the Tonys is not what he should be embarrassed about with Leap of Faith.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Embarrassed for having a nominated musical that's not performing. If he just has them perform the title song then maybe (just maybe) people will be sad it's gone. I hear that's the only good thing about the whole show. And I wouldn't mind the four minutes of it, since I won't be paying to watch it.
I'm glad to hear that they will be performing. I think the cast members are, no doubt happy as well. The truth is, the show got nominated. For someone who was in the show, that must have been a great feeling. Performing at The Tony Awards, even if it's one person or the whole ensemble allows their friends and family members who didn't get to see the show in NYC to see what they were putting their heart and soul in to for however long it was.
"The price of love is loss, but still we pay; We love anyway."
I don't understand the point of this performing at the Tony Awards either. Has a recording been confirmed besides just tweets from a cast member or two?
Something like Bonnie & Clyde or perhaps WONDERLAND last season (sorry for the Wildhorn overload) would make sense as the recordings were already on the market.
That being said, Jonas' act II solo would be a bizarre choice, in my opinion, since a) Raul wasn't nominated and b) The song just kind of ends. I would think it will be "Leap of Faith" (which is the best song from the musical), "Lost" (another solo though), or the atrocious lyrics, but diva-belty song "Are You on the Bus?" with three of the female leads.
I would love if they did "Are you on the Bus" or possibly "Like Magic". I honestly thought it was a fun show. It was basically a lifetime movie thown on stage.
(Did that get confirmed, or just that they were trying?)
I would imagine if they were told YES, it would be bad form to take back the approval -- unless the approval was "at this time".
