Discuss! Holland Taylor was certainly brave to join the sinking ship. Anyone see it? Was it really that bad?

Yes it was bad. There was also a recent thread on the play. Someone's reviving it Off Bwy. Heaven forfend!

I've always been interested why Holland Taylor joined the cast at the last minute...wasn't it like days before opening? It seemed to work out for her though.

"I've always been interested why Holland Taylor joined the cast at the last minute.."

Eve Arden withdrew suddenly..... and understandably!

In my theatregoing experience, it was the best so-bad-it's-funny show I have ever seen. This one truly had to be seen to be believed.

But you know what? In comparison to the horrors I've had to endure these past years, Moose Murders was theatrical heaven.

Riedel reports on the off-Broadway revisal...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Thanks for posting that, CapnHook! It was so fun chatting with Riedel about this.

Ms. Holland is very entertaining and amusing on Twitter, haven't had the never to ask her about her Moose experiences. She's not the type to kiss and tell though. As for the "author", it's nice that he is actually attempting to make his script coherent, even at this late date.

A friend and I did ask Taylor about Moose Murders after seeing her in an off-Broadway play a few years ago. She was very nice and laughed about it. She said she honestly did it because it was work. She had a different gig lined up, but it was still a month or so out. She figured Moose Murders would play a week or two and then she could move on to the other job.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Broadwayhunk, Arthur's a lot better playwright than MOOSE MURDERS lets on. MY GREAT DEAD SISTER, which is unpublished but receiving a reading starring Julie Halston on Sunday through our company, is heart-warming, funny and a great comfort play. MASTERPIECES is a delightful play on the Bronte family.

A lot of obstacles stood in the way of MOOSE MURDERS. We've been adamant that Broadway never should have been the home. And though we don't intend to "fix" anything, Arthur deserves a second look at his farce with loving eyes in a low-stress environment. He's the sweetest guy on the planet. We're so lucky he's been so open to this!

And thanks Tazber, hope to see you there.

Do we really want someone to fix this up and make it coherent? I'd rather see the play exactly as it was on Broadway.

So this debunks the rumors that Reidel makes everything up and doesn't talk to people involved.
Good luck with this, it's certainly a risky endeavor.
Why not just do a good play?

We've wondered about that ourselves, Lee. But this is for Arthur, and not just to laugh at what the play once was. We're showing Arthur all the love he never got.

What's risky about a two-week run? Arthur's taking the biggest risk by re-writing, certainly. But we're a shoe-string company that donates a portion of profits to charities. This time it's Arthur's choice -- GLSEN.

I remember there being some wonderfully funny scenes that were high farce of the NOISES OFF type. Unfortunately, the styles of those scenes clashed greatly with a leading lady (however brilliant--I saw Holland Taylor) whose personal comedic style was more underplayed and sardonic.

I didn't think it was fixable in the last week of previews, but there were scenes that showed talent. I think it would have been merely forgotten by now were it not for that perfectly awful, alliterative title (and SPOILER ALERT the dreadful scene in which the title became literal).

Personally, I'm glad Iluvtheatretrash is reviving it. Should be interesting.

I enjoyed the trailer very much.
Will buy tickets. (now have bought tickets to opening night.)
I have a certain affinity for shows that close opening night. Some close because they were disasterous performances others become they have no cash and are deep in debt. Mine was the later.

If you're very interested in our MOOSE MURDERS revival at the Connelly, we're just 98 days away and the publicity hoopla is beginning!

We've just created a Facebook page devoted to all things Moose, and will be starting to take promotional shots with our cast very soon. And in a few weeks, we'll be creating Facebook pages that our actors will maintain "in character". Lots of fun things devoted to all things Moose Murders, so head on over and click 'like'!
