Report: Obamacare penalty regressive, will cost most uninsured at least $1,000

The penalty imposed by the Affordable Care Act on citizens who elect not to purchase health insurance will be at least $1,000 for most people, and more than $12,000 for high-income earners, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation.

¯We can see that this is a big tax, particularly on the poor,¯ writes the Tax Foundation¯s William McBride. ¯Higher income families generally pay a higher amount, but actually a smaller percent of their income, making this a regressive tax.¯

For example, the penalty for a family of four earning $20,000 will be $2,085, more than 10 percent of its income, according to the Tax Foundation ¯ whereas a family of four making $100,000 will only have two percent of its income taken away by the government.
http://taxfoundation.org/article/taxing-uninsured-latest-estimates

So this new tax will come down hard on the poor and middle class and have little effect on the rich. Sort of what the Democrats screamed the Bush Tax Cuts did!

PROOF that Obama's policies (and Obamacare in particular) COSTs JOBS!!

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2012/07/30/cook-medical-med-tech-tax-plans.html

Cook Medical says it won't build five Midwest plants due to med-tech tax

A med-tech company says it's scrapping plans to open five new plants in the Midwest because of the 2.3 percent medical-device tax that goes into effect next year to help pay for the new federal health care law.
Cook Medical Inc., a Bloomington, Ind.-based company that makes a variety of medical devices, told the Indianapolis Business Journal that the federal tax will cost it between $20 million and $30 million annually.
That's enough to force the company to abandon plans to build five plants over the next five years, said Pete Yonkman, Cook's executive vice president of strategic business unit.

WH Communications director Dan Pfeiffer called out Charles Krauthammer because "Krauthammer today recycles the false rumor that POTUS gave back the bust of Winston Churchill."
Here's what Pfeiffer wrote: "Lately, there’s been a rumor swirling around about the current location of the bust of Winston Churchill. Some have claimed that President Obama removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office and sent it back to the British Embassy.

Now, normally we wouldn’t address a rumor that’s so patently false, but just this morning the Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer repeated this ridiculous claim in his column. He said President Obama “started his Presidency by returning to the British Embassy the bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office.”

This is 100% false. The bust still in the White House (sic). In the Residence. Outside the Treaty Room."

Did you say 100% false, Dan?? Uh, you might want to AMMEND that a bit!

When you’re going to write a “fact check” article or blog post, you might want to, you know, check your facts. We know that this is usually an extremely difficult task for the Obama White House.

Here is what MEDIA MATTERS (yes, that's right MEDIA MATTERS!! LOL!!) had to say about the Churchill bust: 'A British Embassy spokesman said: “The bust of Sir Winston Churchill by Sir Jacob Epstein was uniquely lent to a foreign head of state, President George W Bush, from the Government Art Collection in the wake of 9/11 as a signal of the strong transatlantic relationship.

“It was lent for the first term of office of President Bush. When the President was elected for his second and final term, the loan was extended until January 2009.

“The new President has decided not to continue this loan and the bust has now been returned. It is on display at the Ambassador’s Residence.“"

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2011/08/23/ny-post-runs-becks-churchill-bust-conspiracy-as/182393

WHY would I post something from an organization of ill repute like MEDIA MATTERS??? I find it comical that the WH Communications director is contradicting a web site that is nothing but a shill for the president and the left-wing. WOOPS!!
But of course I would NEVER post anything from MM without following it up with support from more reputable organizations. So, here is an article from UK's THE TELEGRAPH:

Barack Obama sends bust of Winston Churchill on its way back to Britain
Barack Obama has sent Sir Winston Churchill packing and pulse rates soaring among anxious British diplomats.

A bust of the former prime minister once voted the greatest Briton in history, which was loaned to George W Bush from the Government's art collection after the September 11 attacks, has now been formally handed back.
The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush's tenure.
But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: "Thanks, but no thanks."
Diplomats were at first reluctant to discuss the whereabouts of the Churchill bronze, after its ejection from the seat of American power. But the British Embassy in Washington has now confirmed that it sits in the palatial residence of ambassador Sir Nigel Sheinwald, just down the road from Vice President Joe Biden's official residence.

So, will there be an APOLOGY from the White House to Charles Krauthammer?
Don't hod your breath!

Come on, Playbilly. Mikey has made me a changed woman. I was going to vote for Obama because of his policies, beliefs, experience, and about a hundred other reasons.

However, he sent back a statue that was on loan, because something on loan has to go back eventually. Ah well, guess I'll vote Romney. Dang you, statue.

You are WRONG again, Wynbish; there were no spelling errors in my post. A spelling error is when one does not spell a word correctly because they are unfamiliar with the word's correct spelling. Since I had already spelled the word "truth" correctly in that very post, it is obvious that I knew how to spell that word. What you are referring to is a TYPO.
BIG difference.

Earlier today, Dan Pfeiffer, WH Communications Director, issued an apology to Charles Krauthammer.

"Yesterday following his column, I sent the following email to Charles Krauthammer. Charles asked that I make the email public and I have agreed.

Charles,

I take your criticism seriously and you are correct that you are owed an apology. There was clearly an internal confusion about the two busts and there was no intention to deceive. I clearly overshot the runway in my post. The point I was trying to make ¯ under the belief that the Bust in the residence was the one previously in the Oval Office-- was that this oft repeated talking point about the bust being a symbol of President Obama¯s failure to appreciate the special relationship is false. The bust that was returned was returned as a matter of course with all the other artwork that had been loaned to President Bush for display in his Oval Office and not something that President Obama or his Administration chose to do. I still think this is an important point and one I wish I had communicated better.

A better understanding of the facts on my part and a couple of deep breaths at the outset would have prevented this situation. Having said all that, barring a miracle comeback from the Phillies I would like to see the Nats win a world series even if it comes after my apology

Thanks,

Dan Pfeiffer"

Okay then. We've been lied to. Obama didn't do everything he promised.

But instead of harping 'coulda woulda shoulda', could you please explain why Romney should be president?

Or do you just want to sit and whine about things you can't control?

Which one should I vote for??? Hmmmmmm.........

You say he brought the economic recovery to a halt. It's more accurate to say he brought the economic meltdown started by the previous administration to a halt.
But hey...at least you admit he started the economic recovery. That's a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately for President Obama, his "You didn't build that" speech is NOT going away. And the Obama campaign is a little nervous about its staying power.

From THE WALL STREET JOURNAL:

"What's the difference between a calm and cool Barack Obama, and a rattled and worried Barack Obama? Four words, it turns out.

"You didn't build that" is swelling to such heights that it has the president somewhere unprecedented: on defense. Mr. Obama has felt compelled—for the first time in this campaign—to cut an ad in which he directly responds to the criticisms of his now-infamous speech, complaining his opponents took his words "out of context."

That ad follows two separate ones from his campaign attempting damage control. His campaign appearances are now about backpedaling and proclaiming his love for small business. And the Democratic National Committee produced its own panicked memo, which vowed to "turn the page" on Mr. Romney's "out of context . . . BS"—thereby acknowledging that Chicago has lost control of the message."

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443931404577551344018773450.html

Unfortunately for the Prez, we have the video of his speech so we KNOW what he said and we KNOW it was NOT taken out of context. We also have other evidence, from Obama's comments to Joe the Plumber 4 years ago about redistributing wealth, the the Obama campaign's own website, where the animated story of Julia emphasizes the government's role in her success, that supports his "You didn't built that" speech's theme
