Anyone seeing FOLLIES in LA tonight? |
Next Wednesday afternoon for me
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

"I think lying to children is really important, it sets them off on the right track" -Sherie Rene Scott-
She worn green the last time.

I don't really care what she's wearing as long as her "Losing My Mind" is less sultry than her performance at Encores

Wildcard: YESSS! I have been trying to describe what I didn't like about her interpretation of the song and you did it in one word. I'll be going next tuesday and I'll let you know.
I don't believe she had really found the character at Encores! I'm hoping LA will be a big improvement. Her vocals will be glorious, that's for sure.
Losing My Mind at Encores was just... bizarre. I'm sure her character has evolved since then, especially through the process with this cast, so I'm hoping to hear her performance isn't anything like Encores (at least for Losing My Mind; I didn't see the actual performance, just clips).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was completely dumbfounded by the sensual take on losing my mind.
have tix for June
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...

THE LOS ANGELES OMNI HOTEL...not a bad hotel actually and it is basically right across the street by one block or so...
The Omni Hotel is down the street as is Hilton Checker's and The Biltmore. All within walking distance to the theatre.
I'm seeing the show on June 8th & the evening on June 9th.

I haven't lived in Los Angeles for 8 years, but when I used to work for law firms downtown, visitors usually stayed at Checkers or the Biltmore, as nealb1 suggests. From either it's a two or three block walk up hill to the Music Center.
Brett, I'll be at Follies on Tuesday as well. I'll wave from the mezzanine.

I hope she's wearing a skin tight bright pink mini skirt with some fierce FM pumps and enormous hoop earrings.
You could certainly make an argument that Losing My Mind is about sexual frustration. I didn't mind the sultry take...and I certainly enjoyed the rest of her interpretation of the role. I just didn't feel like the sang sat in the right part of her voice. I felt like it needed to be taken up...maybe to the Barbara Cook key.
Clark's You Tube clip from the ENCORES production reminds me of Marilyn Monroe singing, "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." Sally ain't THAT sultry! (Though Clark's voice sounds amazing.)
Somebody needs to send a memo to Sallys everywhere:
"Re: Losing My Mind
Don't try to compete with the big numbers before and after by overacting. If you sing the song well enough, you can stand out by underplaying it. Less is more here. Keep that in mind and the audience will walk out remembering Phyllis' dress, but humming YOUR song.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Collins"

I'm leaving in 3 hours for the 1st preview and very excited to be seeing this again the 1st time that I've seen it since it was at the Shubert Theatre in 1972--Yes, I'm old! Looking forward to seeing everyone but will finally be fulfilling a long time wish to see Elaine Paige--LIVE--in a musical production :) Will comment after the show but will be very late as the drive to and from the Ahmanson is not quick for me.
Any other specific things I should look for besides the color of the dress and her entrances?

Wicked, I look forward to hearing about anything that stands out to you.
(I, too, am looking forward to seeing Elaine Paige. I met her a few years ago, but I've never seen her on stage. Couldn't get in to her EVITA in London in 1979. Not a spare seat to be had.)
