#1Rant about the 2012 TONY nominations here
Posted: 4/30/12 at 8:47pm

Once more, Tony nomination day is here.

Every year we get all this outrage from posters who think that their indignation for the nominations justifies starting a number of threads which make the boards impossible to follow and unreadable.

So, before you post your "How could (your favorite performer) be nominated over (performer you think sucked)? thread or your WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????? rant or your (Name of the show you worship) was robbed! thread , just post all your frustrations here!

Vent, rant, bitch - but , please, don't start a new thread just because you think you can. :)

Thanks, loves.

(And yes, I include this same message every year.)

Oh my goodness. With everything I have going on this week, I almost forgot that tomorrow is the big day! I don't know if I'll be able to catch the official announcements because I have class. But I will drop on by later in the day to see what the damage is. I feel that I don't totally care a lot this year but I am still curious. I sometimes will go see whatever wins for Best Musical (with the exception of The Book of Mormon which I will never see)

I think Spiderman should get a special award. I mean, wasn't it supposed to open up in 2009 or something like that? They just had bad luck. I think they should get an award for their effort and finally opening. I will cry in my room all day if they don't.

I'm not going to rant because I know the field is very competitive and I think there are actors that gave overall better performances but I will be a bit sad that Matthew Broderick will not be nominated tomorrow. I feel that his performance is a big reason that "Nice Work" is as delightful as it is and I think some of the reviews were way off base. There have been several reviews that have come out since opening night that have noted and appreciated his comedic performance and while not necessarily a Tony worthy performance, still one that should be acknowledged in a positive light.

That being said, Danny, Jeremy or Steve certainly deserve the Tony this year and I will be happy for any one of them to win. Raul is also deserving of some credit despite his mediocre show. He gave it his best.

Being totally genuine -

If I could pick ONE nomination that I want to happen more than any other it is PHILLIP BOYKIN. He gives an astonishing performance that makes a "villain" quite nearly sympathetic somehow.

I think he should win in fact, and I love that he's a Broadway newcomer.

I am going to be tied up most of the day tomorrow (no, not like that. I wish...) so I'll go ahead and pre-rant about folks creating their own ranting threads here.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

If Bernadette doesn't get a nomination she deserves her own thread.

Or a new sub-forum.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
