Perfect casting! Osnes was able to find depth in Hope, one of the most underwritten roles in musical theatre, so I assume her Cinderella will be delightful. Fontana is an unexpected, inspired choice!
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
since this never played Broadway, will it be considered a new musical or a revival??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I love this casting :) she sounds like she's going to be a great fit as Cinderella & while Santino wouldn't be the first name to pop into my head I'm intrigued to see them together, especially if it sounds like Douglas Carter Beane is going to be revising the script.
The age and frequency of the material on stage will surely render it a revival. Wikipedia has an extensive listing of all the stage productions including several engagements at New York City Opera and several national tours.
It'll be interesting to see if it's a revival or not. It has a massively rewritten book, with a lot of R & H songs not originally written for the TV Cinderella. It's a similar situation to On A Clear Day.
Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Not at all. I feel happy for her, especially considering she came from a reality-TV show, which have a bit of a stigma.

This is exciting news. Can't wait to hear her rendition of "My own little corner" I would also consider the 2000 tour with kitt/montalbon and siggler close to a broadway production as possible. Updated On: 4/18/12 at 07:27 PM
