Not to mention it's simply rude to stage door before a show.

I'm sorry, ma'am, but you experienced NOTHING to be upset over --certainly nothing to besmirch Martin's character over.

You also missed excellent teachable moments for your daughter: -- stars are people and have lives and responsibilities
- you need to respect that no, means no
- you don't get everything you want
- accept disappointment with GRACE

What she learned from you: is everyone is owed something and that you let little, unimportant things ruin the bigger picture.

You had tickets to see a show, not for a signature.

(and before you spout that I don't understand, I have kids and bring them to shows all the time, sometimes we stage door. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. It's never "ruined" anything, because my children understand that meeting the actors is a BONUS and a GIFT -- not an expectation or right.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Oh, PLEASE!!! He was late, you were there BEFORE the show...PLUS he kissed your duaghter! And you're mad at HIM?! If you had any sense, you would have had a camera ready for the smooch. Don't blame him because you screwed up. And, CarlosAlberto...finish up with Ricky early, so tourist can have their unreasonable expectations met.

Sunshineleopard, I totally agree with you and to others on here, Ricky Martin and other celebs wouldn't be celebs if 'we' hadn't put them there. That was one selfish, egotistical move.

How is it selfish and egotistical to not want to be late for the 1700 other fans (not to mention cast and crew) waiting for him in the theatre? Delaying the show to accommodate a handful of disrespectful fans like sunshineleopard- who needs to learn appropriate boundaries instead of passing on rude behavior like this to her spoiled daughter- is much more egotistical.

it takes two seconds to sign a prog, he'd spent that kissing the child. It wouldn't have been like that 15 years back. How grateful are 'stars' in the beginning for any attention/publicity.

Your story seems odd:

1.) How did you have a Playbill before the show? Also,I find it funny that the man would decline an autograph (essenitally a quick scribble) but would come kiss your child. This after you are holding him up by arguing with him. Something doesn't add up.

2.) If this story is true, you really did your child a disservice. In stead of focusing on the positives (how exciting we saw Ricky, oh how lucky you are, you got a kiss from Ricky) you berated the man in front of your child and ruined your kids afternoon. So fixated on a signed Playbill you pissed all over the afternoon. Nice work.

You seem the type who expected a "moment" with Ricky. It's time to check yourself. Also, I hope you learned from this to not a be a shrew in front of your kid.

However, Bettyboy has found some loopholes in the story that indicate it's probably a fraud. Please remember Sunshineleopard joined BWW for the sole purpose of discussing this incident.

I didn't know there were rules stage dooring. We took the chance to see if we could get an autograph. The other 5 ladies waiting got autographs from the other cast members. For the person that said my story doesn't add up. We received the playbill when I went to the ticket box to pick up the tickets that were ordered. The man gave one to my daughter. He actually told us where the stage door was.
Being in that situation I am sure many people would view it differently. I don't feel bashing me with the way that I felt at the time is necessary. You can't be mad for the way someone feels. Yes like I said in a previous post I am happy that my daughter at least received a kiss. With being at his events before and seeing what a great person he is I think I was just surprised. Yes it is just an added bonus to get to see them or get an autograph. I did not feel I was entitled to an autograph just was hoping for one.
My daughter enjoyed her day and was happy to be face to face with him so you know what at the end of the day for me that is all that matters.
He could have ignored us all together.I am sorry to say to everyone that has written something naasty I cannot apologize for the way I felt in the moment but looking back I am grateful to have seen him face to face and not too many little girls can say they received a kiss on the cheek from Ricky Martin.

i guess if you consider rules the same as common courtesy than yes, there are rules. however, although you seemed to think he should have dropped everything 15 minutes before the show to sign the playbill for your daughter, what if 50 other people walking by decided to ambush him for autographs? would it have been acceptable for the show and everyone waiting in the theater to wait for him to finish? In all honesty you are lucky he stopped at all, or that you even got a playbill while picking up tickets, which has never ever happened for me.

I have no reason to lie about getting a playbill. Everyone that was picking up their tickets received one. Sorry you never got one. Believe me if there were 50 people waiting of course he wouldn't be able to. But with just me and my daughter that was why I wish he could have. You seem pissed because you thought my story was a fraud. I'm over what happened as you can read in my post right before yours. Thank you!!!

I take my 7 year old granddaughter to the theater on a regular basis and she's met quite a few Broadway stars. If this meant so much to you, you should have arranged something in advance with Ricky Martin. Instead, you took a chance and lost--just like playing Mega Millions.

"I have no reason to lie about getting a playbill. Everyone that was picking up their tickets received one."

So they were handing out Playbills to the hottest show on Broadway at the "ticket box" (box office). Right, on what planet?
Box office staff don't have the time to even be friendly, much less hand out Playbills.

Me smells a dirty sock.

The Leopard is so clearly a silly sock puppet, and not even a funny one. Puppet, the least you could do is be amusing if you're going to make up a ridiculous tale. Add some color! Add some sparkle!

Chalk it up to "lessons learned" Leopard (or whoever has their hand up inside you).

"Immature"???? You just gave yourself away, girlie.

There are some of us who are responding to you who are in our 60's.

Experience has shown that only kiddies in their teens remark that something is "immature". Why? Because that's what they are.

Now take your "ticket box" and go back to Peoria--or whatever hole you slithered out of.

Do Elena and Michael tend to leave the theatre before or after Ricky Martin? If after, does the crowd waiting for Ricky tend to dissipate or does it remain there?

From what I've read, they tend to leave after Ricky does and usually the crowd is mostly all gone after Ricky leaves.

I have been to countless shows, from Broadway to workshops. And the only occasion I have ever been given a program in advance (when I pick up tickets) is to workshops and ONE Off-Broadway show. So yeah, this story doesn't really add up.

Either way, the man was late to work. Let's hope he was able to get stretched and get his vocal warm-ups in, because he has a JOB to do, celebrity or not. The only instance where I've seen a celebrity do a before the show signing was Hugh Jackman, and he seemed to really enjoy doing it and was quite gracious; but even he would make sure he was inside by no later than 1:45.

Hell most Broadway stars will ignore someone who asks for a picture or an autograph before the show. The fact that he acknowledged you at all and (apparently) gave your daughter a peck on the cheek would actually give him points in my book.

You could have always tried the stage door after the show and gotten your autograph.
