It's a much better single than the first, but it sounds so much like Get Together from Confessions to me. I guess it's ok to steal from yourself. A return to the Dance Floor- Madonna's New single' 'GIRL GONE WILD'

I am loving this track much more than Give Me All Your Luvin, this will be huge in the clubs. I think it will bomb in the US charts but she has had her top 10 single for this album with the last single, hopefully it will get her back on top in the UK.

Please note that Girls Gone Wild is the first single from the album and will henceforth be referred to as such. History has been adjusted. "Gimme..." was just a "promotional single," they're saying now.

In reality of course it was just a buzz single. The song could not have been more aimed at the Superbowl if it tried. Cheerleaders, football players, chanting etc. She did no promo for 'Luvin' outside of the Superbowl.

I like it too. I just wish her singing didn't sound so weak and tinny.

Reminds me too much of "Into the Nightlife" from Cyndi's Bring Ya To The Brink. I hate to say it but I like "Gimme..." much better.

I'm not overly keen, though I liked it better on the second listen. I agree it sounds like Into The Nightlife, and of course Cyndi was saying girls just wanna have fun decades ago too. It's fun to make Cyndi comparisons...weren't they big rivals once upon a time?

Wow. When is she going to learn to act her age? Her "girl" days were over a long time ago. Not impressed. But of course it will be played ad nauseum at every bar or club I go to.

I really don't get why her age is such an issue, especially in America?

The age question is a great one. I'm pretty surprised that the ageism is so strong... It's a cocktail of misogyny and ageism, I guess because artists like Aerosmith, Sting, Seal, Bon Jovi (list is a motley crue, I admit) can make videos and albums that make em look/sound WAY younger than they are and no one is telling these guys to hang it up. Look at IGGY POP for Chissakes... The man is practically a living BODIES IN MOTION and no one says a thing.

Madonna is a funny pop culture fossil, a rare breed. I remember the wisecracks Cher was getting in the late 90's, early 2000s when the "nothing will survive the nuclear holocaust but cockroaches and Cher" jokes were commonplace, but I don't know if she had the same approach to marketing Madonna has. M was/is/and apparently always will be a popmusic creature... She seems completely uninterested in acting anyway but how she wants. She wants to release the sound she wants (pop) and for the most part, the demographic that music is aimed at is much younger than she is, so it makes sense to me that she'd market the sound and image to the people who she's trying to attract. Why should her age preclude her from being able to keep making the kind of music she wants and marketing how she sees fit?

Her actual age aside, how many people can claim to have the body she has? The fitness level she has? Why wouldn't someone who has spent a lot of time (and let's face it.. money) keeping the car tuned up, want to show it off?

The comments about whether or not one likes the work created are fair. (Huge Madonna fan, but her lyrics have gone to ****). However, the ageist comments are awful and indicative of a huge double standard.

And, frankly, I hope to shake my ass as long as I can. I don't want someone telling me to hang it up. You wouldn't either.

Madonna has done it all. Been there done it. So what,... she repeats herself, draws from her past. Recycles lyrics. It's who she is. She's always gonna be a 'girl'. Pretty ageist to think she needs to hang it up. Remember, not many pop artists last longer than 10 years- Madonna has broken that mold with a few others in the pop world. But Madonna has been the only one to be consistently on top of her game, health and fitness all thirty years while others come and go-take breaks, go to rehab, infomercials, die of overdosing or drugs, making babies,.etc...

I think people are threatened by that.

The hype alternates but never changes, it's just people's memories are so terrible they don't remember where they've heard it all before. "This one's classic Madonna.". "This one's Madonna back to basics on the dancefloor!" "This one's just FUN, and isn't that what we need from Madonna right now?"

Repeat. Repeat again.

I don't know how releasing a video, doing the Super Bowl, and paying off Clear Channel to play "Gimmee" once an hour every day can be said to be Madonna "doing nothing" to promote it.

What Madonna needed at this stage in her career is a "Wind Beneath My Wings," but despite the hype for being such a smart bizness lady, she's too dumb to know.

Maybe she's past caring. Perhaps she spent all her artistic energy on W.E, and is just resting on her laurels a bit. She's earned it!

Frankly, and I love her, her lyrics have always been fairly **** IMHO--when she tries to be confessional they always sound like high school poetry.

Anyway, though Attitude Mag in the UK always seems to love the gay divas, so I can't fairly judge, this review makes the album sound actually pretty interesting--much more than Hard Candy at any rate.

Just realized that Girls Gone Wild reminds me of the Benny Benassi remix of Madonna's Celebration--the one most radio stations played (that is if they bothered to play it...) No big surprise that he produced it...

I listened to the song a couple of times and it's not bad. I hate the spoken introduction and Lauper lyrics that are more than a bit contrived. I have to say I like Gimme a little better (it seems more "fun" without as much effort), but neither really get into my head which is what I miss most about the 80s/early 90s Madonna. It seemed like Cher and Britney picked that ball up when Madonna dropped it and now Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are playing hot potato with it. One nice thing about the 80s was the tidal wave of one-hit wonders that flooded the radio. You didn't have to try and be devoted to one artist because they probably didn't have another good song and the very next day there would be another new song by someone else you didn't have to fall in love with. It was a decade of pop music infidelity without the guilt.

I admit my only problem with the track is it is sorta Benny Benassi by the numbers--I could see him doing it for anyone including someone like (ugh) Katy perry. Still it has started to stick in my head.

Matt do you really think the 80s were more heavily one hit wonder than other decades? I mean the 70s with disco especially the majority of disco (some acts like Chic and Donna Summer excepted) was essentially one hit wonders. So is now.

I've never been a big Britney fan--I like some of her songs but she's never brought enough character to her music for me to really think of it as more than a catchy song--the way I find with Madonna, or Kylie Minogue (who I admit took away a lot of my diva love for Madonna back when Madge seemed to be taking everything too seriously).

To me, the 80s seemed to have this bizarre ability to create this huge number of one-hit wonders with staying power. I don't know, maybe it really isn't that much compared to other decades, but it really seems that way. You pick up a compilation of 80s hits and probably 75% of the tracks are bands or artists that were only known for one or maybe two songs.

That review makes me even more excited for this new album. While I did like CONFESSIONS and HARD CANDY, I miss the softer side of Madonna with songs like Masterpiece and a few others that promise to be ballad or balladish.

Even though I detest the title song, I'm still waiting for her to top RAY OF LIGHT.

Matt you may be right, though again I think if you bougth a compilation of random 70s or 60s pop hits a lot of it would be one hit wonders, as well...

Jordan I agree the review sounds great, especially after how safe Hard Candy was (I remain a big Confessions fan though and I thought it did have some softer moments like Forbidden Love). Ray of Light was a revelation for me when it came out in high school, but I admit, while I still appreciate the album, it now sounds like one of Madonna's more dated ones. Maybe I just need to give it a few more years--anyway it's nice that she is working on some of the new tracks with its producer Orbit.
