What Musicals should be revived? |
GYPSY. It's been far too long.
"It’s the fractured quality in [Bernadette Peters'] singing voice and line readings that puts across the character as someone for whom resentment is sliding into madness." - NYtimes on Follies (2011).
The same 2 shows ive been saying for years: Grand Hotel with Hugh Panaro and Leigh Ann Larkin and Kiss of the Spiderwoman with Catherine Zeta Jones.
<------ Me and my friends with patti Lupone at my friends afterparty for her concert with audra mcdonald during the summer of 07.

I'd love to see a Most Happy Fella with a full orchestra, maybe at the Beaumont/LCT. Terriffic score and orchestrations.
Ditto to "Most Happy Fella". I love that show. I think "Pippin" and "The Secret Garden" would also be worthy candidates.
FYI: dicapo Opera is reviving THE MOST HAPPY FELLA next month for 4 performances. They generally do excellent work.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I'm definitely hoping the recent She Loves Me concert will lead to a full production with most (if not all) of the concert participants.
Wasn't Roundabout at one point developing a High Spirits revival (with Andrea Martin as Arcati) that never got off the ground?

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

^don't know about either of those AC. Of course, the entire cast of She Loves Me would be pie in the sky. I don't see Victor Garber playing a role like Maracek eight days a week and even getting Krakowski as Ilona might be too much to ask.
Martin would certainly be wonderful as Arcati but Harris would still by my first choice. Pauline Collins would also be outstanding. As would Mary Louise Wilson.

City of Angels would also be excellent.
I'd love that Brigadoon revival that Rob Ashford was planning for a couple years ago to come. Brigaddon might be a great show for Encores!

None. Ever. All musicals should be new and 100% original- not adapted from any source material.
No good can possibly come from using this vast wasteland of error and deliberate deceit. You should get off of it and warn others away. You should make sure your children and grandchildren know what a corrupt and morally bankrupt institution it truly is.
I kind of agree with JoeKv...I'd love to see some brand new musicals that haven't been adapted at all.
I would love to see Kiss of the Spider Woman with new staging. The original staging and choreography sort of ruined the show for me.

"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
I wish that the recent (2005) Two Gentlemen of Verona revival had a longer life, or was at least recorded. It really was a lovely production.

Definitely MISS SAIGON.
Lloyd Webber is back with now 3 on broadway, but I agree with the person that said:
STARLIGHT EXPRESS - Keep roller skates and really use new technology. This show seems to be the ugly step child of his catalog. It's very similar to Cats in structure and not an earth shattering story. Like many works it's about rooting for the underdog. I liked it when I saw it on tour and still listen to the music. Very kid/teen friendly which gets new blood in broadway theatres.
SUNSET BLVD - Won't happen, but dream would be to have Patti finally do it in NYC. The fued prevents this, but it would be great PR and great box office. Plus I really like the show and I love listening to her version.
Keeping with ALW
WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND - Really liked this CD. I did see a tour in Detroit a few years back. That production seemed clunky, but only in the pacing. With the right direction and maybe some small musical changes to keep it flowing, it would be great. I also think it would make a great film (yes a remake of the Haley Mills version - but now musical).
