CAST Into the Woods Movie |
I can't even start to imagine who they will cast but I wouldn't be surprised if Bieber was cast as Jack.
Just give the world Love.

I can't think of a Hollywood actor for Baker. Maybe Josh Radnor.
I like your imperturbable perspicacity.

I would like to see:
Baker's Wife - Sutton Foster
Baker - Neil Patrick Harris
Jack - Jonathan Groff

Some of these names would be great for a Broadway revival, but not for a major film.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
Jason Segal would actually be really great as The Baker, the more I think about it the more I really could see him as The Baker.(though I have a gut feeling Marshall is going to cast Steve Carell as the Baker)
Kristen Wiig IMO was born to play The Baker's Wife
Alison Brie would be just TOO perfect as Cinderella
If only Alexander Skarsgard could sing, but he can't so I'd have Matt Bomer for Cinderella's Prince/Wolf(I would have Nathan Fillion but he might be too old)
Hunter Parish for Rapunzel's prince
Jeremy Jordan for Jack
A complete unknown for Red
Either James Cromwell, Steve Martin, or John Lithgow for The Narrator/Baker's Father
Dianna Argon as Rapunzel

I really LOVE the idea of Jason Segal as The Baker! I've always had an unpopular opinion that Zach Galifianakis would be great as The Baker, though. The thing is, he's been type cast as a man-child in Hollywood, so those are all the roles he gets to play. He's really a great serious actor, and can actually sing. I've been following his career since he started, and I saw him at a comedy club not too long ago, and he recognized me. (And before I go on about this, this isn't me bragging about meeting a celebrity and having a conversation - I just want to make that clear.) We got to talking about a lot of things and I asked him if he ever wanted to do a musical and he said "Oh my god, I'd love to, but no one would let me... They're not jokes, ya know?" Then he went on to tell me how he did community theatre for years in his younger days, and how much he loves musicals and that he saw Million Dollar Quartet (I know, jukebox, but still!) several times on Broadway. He's actually a really great actor and very classy man who wants to be taken seriously every once in a while. And I think with the beard, it's a really good look for the character. And I've heard him sing, he's not incredibly strong, but it could definitely work for a film version of Into the Woods. Just for what it's worth.
Michael Caine as The Narrator
Meryl Streep as The Witch (So obvious, but COME ON! She's gotta do Sondheim SOME time!)
Ana Gasteyer as The Baker's Wife
Emily Blunt as Cinderella
Daniel Radcliffe as Jack
Julie Andrews as Jack's Mother
Anna Kendrick as Little Red Riding Hood
Alan Cumming as The Wolf
Dick Van Dyke as The Mysterious Man/Baker's Dad
Mandy Patinkin as The Steward
Carol Burnett as The Giant

What about Kristin Chenoweth as the Witch? She has great comedy chops.
I second Toni Collette for the Baker's Wife, although I think Amy Adams and Kristen Wigg would do well in the part too. I guess it all has to do with how old the Baker and his wife are...are they a young couple...or a much older couple?
Emily Blunt would be a great Cinderella...but so would Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway...plus many others.
I always thought it would be fun to cast Vanessa Williams as the Step Mother and have Beyonce and Solange Knowles as the Step Sisters.

I think some of you are forgetting vocal classes here, Harris is a tenor, the baker is a very good baritone part, and would suffer without having one. And harris certainly does not have the low notes neccessary.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can forget that the actors do not have to actually have a VOICE, just a name. Hollywood has a VERY long history of casting actors who cannot sing a note in leading roles. Check out this video, which was recently brought to my attention by a crazy MF on FB:

They would be crazy not to cast Bernadette Peters as the Witch.

Would Chip Zien be classified as a baritone? I always saw him as a tenor....

Vocal types (soprano, alto, etc.) don't matter at all for film. They'll change the keys for a star.

I think Debbie Harry would have made an amazing witch, but like many suggestions here, she is too old for the part now...
I do kind of love the idea of Marion Cottilard as the Witch because its so unexpected.
I think the film will likely be a super all star affair along the lines of that reading of the proposed film version from the 90s. A lot of the suggestions in this thread are more realistic possibilities for the summer production at the Delacorte.

I guess I never got the NPH appeal, outside of Doogie everything thing just seems to be cynical.
Love to see Jake Gyllenhaal as the Baker. Streep as the Witch, I think Bieber would be awesome. They'll probably cast Amy Adams somewhere, gross.
PS dubbing doesn't matter anymore everything can be fixed in post (ask KeSha).
